JOB SUMMARY

The Clinical Nurse Manager assists with management of daily patient care activities and clinical operations. Is accountable for assuring quality outcomes and appropriate resource consumption. Works closely with the Director of Patient care services to achieve positive financial outcomes for the geographical area. Direct oversight and supervison of the hospice aide. The patient population can include newborns through geriatric patients. Directs all activities in a highly professional manner, demonstrates behavior that exemplifies the LCFL mission statement, and applies principles of leadership and professional standards to all job responsibilities. PRIMARY JOB DUTIES

  • Responsible for assisting with daily patient care operations in assigned geographic areas ensuring that policies, practices, procedures and standards of agency, accreditation, regulatory, and legal requirements are met.
  • Assists in directing daily patient care activities. Responsible for schedules and assigns staff to enhance quality and maximize resource consumption.
  • Assists in facilitating the Interdisciplinary Team process, including acting as chairperson of the IDT meetings. Assists with coordination of the interdisciplinary Plan of Care. Assists with the Utilization review process for appropriateness of admission, eligibility, and recertification.
  • Works collaboratively with Resource Department to ensure optimum patient care past admission.
  • Responsible for assuring quality outcomes for patients/families.
  • Fosters an atmosphere conducive to enhanced employee satisfaction and professional growth.
  • Assisits the Director of Patient Care Services in achieving positive financial outcomes for geographic area.
  • Annually continues personal development to enhance practice and profession.
  • Organizes and performs work effectively and efficiently.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  • Education: Graduate of an approved school of nursing, either through an AD, Diploma or BSN program. BSN or master’s degree in nursing or related field preferred.
  • Licensure / Certifications: Current license to practice professional nursing in the State of North Carolina / South Carolina.
  • Experience: Minimum of three years nursing experience in an acute care setting is required. A minimum of three years management experience is required, preferably in an acute care, home care or residential setting. Hospice experience is preferred.
  • Essential Technical / Motor Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Verbal and written communication skills with ability to speak and write clearly, and ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups and/or boards of directors. Collaborative problem solving skills, planning skills, and management skills, especially those of coordination and evaluation. Knowledge of licensing, certification, and accreditation standards. A strong background of nursing skills, knowledge of nursing standards and the Nurse Practice Act. Ability to analyze trends. Must be literate in the English language.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to develop positive interactions with patients, families, physicians, staff, peers, and external customers to effectively care for patients and manage the daily operations of the facility. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community. Ability to work in a group. Conflict resolution skills. Knowledge of stress management.
  • Essential Physical Requirements: Sitting for deskwork and meetings, writing, some walking and standing, and climbing stairs.
  • Essential Mental Abilities: Must be able to read and understand regulations and standards, formulate policies and procedures, manage daily operations, direct patient care activities, supervise staff, and plan, implement and evaluate programs and interventions. Requires a high level of mental faculties accompanied by short and long-term memory.
  • Essential Sensory Requirements: Ability to use sight to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care activities, monitor records, etc. Ability to use hearing to communicate with staff and patients.
  • Exposure to Hazards: Potential exposure to blood and blood borne pathogens, body fluids, sharps, and infectious diseases. May be exposed to dangerous animals and traffic hazards while performing supervisory visits. May encounter patients and other situations which present a potential threat to personal safety. May encounter temperature changes and weather extremes.
  • Other - Hours of Work: Involves calls after hours and on weekends. Occasional need to flex hours for supervisory visits. Able to rotate management call and respond to assist as needed.
  • Population Served: All patient populations from infants through geriatric with life limiting illness.
