The Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) is an internationally recognized leader in innovative environmental science and research and is located at the University of Colorado Boulder. At CIRES, more than 800 environmental science professionals work to understand the dynamic Earth system, including people’s relationship with the planet. • Construct engineered strains of various bacteria and carrying out laboratory evolution of engineered strains.
• Isolate genomic DNA from evolved strains and analyzing mutations that have occurred.
• Introduce mutations of interest into the genome of the parental strain and assessing the impact on gene expression and growth rate.
• Assist a Post-doc in the lab with various tasks, including bacterial growth, genome editing and cloning.
• Maintaining laboratory equipment.

• This is a 12-month position with the possibility of extension contingent on performance and funding.
• This position is expected to be in the lab full-time.
• The anticipated state date for this position is mid to late May 2023.

• CIRES offers a generous compensation package.
• The annual salary range for this position is $41,000. Salary is commensurate with education and experience and determined based on our CIRES internal career track classification.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology.
• At least one year of laboratory research.
• Experience in cloning and genome editing in E. coli and in measuring bacterial growth curves.

• Strong understanding of the Central Dogma.
• Ability to use sterile technique for cultivation of bacteria.
• Ability to manage time and prioritize tasks.
• Skills in molecular cloning and genome editing.
