In the role of CIR MR Imaging Asssitant you will provide patient-centered care across all areas of Imaging Services. Clerical duties may include but are not limited to reception, wayfinding, registration, insurance verification, documentation in EMR (Electronic Medical Record), and utilization of proper phone etiquette. Patient care duties may include but are not limited to detailed / clear communication by phone and in-person to prepare patients for studies, monitoring outpatients and assisting them with basic needs, transporting patients to and from the scanners and assisting technologists with performing imaging studies. Responsible for helping facilitate efficient patient flow and cleanliness and organization in the imaging areas. This role supports the MR (Magnetic Resonance) environment and those in the role must safely be able to enter the magnetic field (i.e., No pacemakers).


Responsibilities:

  • Greets, receives, and provides assistance for patients, visitors, and other personnel in the waiting areas and/or holding bays. Assists with managing patient flow. Communicates delays between department and patient whenever possible. Performs check-in procedure, obtains/verifies registration, and insurance information as needed. Notifies modality of patient's arrival. Reviews imaging orders to ensure compliance with regulatory standards; contacts ordering provider to resolve discrepancies. Performs accurate, efficient reminder calls where applicable to prepare patients for their studies by reviewing department schedule, radiology protocol, and verifying clinical information. Assists team members with call completion. Prepares patients for exam by providing clear explanation of exam prep and assists with the completion of pre-procedural questionnaires.
  • Supports the technologists and radiologists and collaborates with radiologists, technologists, research/study teams, and TRU staff to provide timely, comprehensive care to patients. Provides wayfinding to appropriate teams/staff.
  • Answers phone and triages messages appropriately and efficiently. Uses scripted telephone etiquette. Communicates with patients, families, and health professionals to provide assistance, as needed. Effectively provides 2-way communication to provide a seamless patient care experience and cohesive work environment. Assists technologists with the transfer and/or positioning of patients and the performance of imaging studies.
  • Transports non-ambulatory patients via wheelchair, cart or bed and prepares patient for imaging by giving introductory explanation of exam process including who will perform the study, if known, may assist patient during procedure. Assesses patient to determine most appropriate transport. Utilizes proper lifting equipment and verifies any safety checks. Provides assistance to clinical patients with special needs (getting dressed/undressed, help with gowns, robes, etc). Checks with technologist staff to verify order. Reports any changes in patient's condition or behavior while in transit to or from the department to the technologist or appropriate team members. Communicates pertinent information and provides information regarding changes in patient condition or patient concerns to the technologist and/or appropriate team members. May enter basic data into electronic medical record for record keeping and proper charging purposes.
  • Performs accurate, efficient reminder calls where applicable to prepare patients for their studies by reviewing department schedule, radiology protocol, and verifying clinical information. Assists team members with call completion. Greets, receives, and provides assistance for patients in the waiting areas and/or holding bays and provides general patient care assistance. Communicates delays between department and patient whenever possible. Where applicable,prepares patients for exam by providing clear explanation of exam prep and assists with the completion of pre-procedural questionnaires.
  • Demonstrates proficiency and knowledge of the Epic/Radiant and PACS information systems (as appropriate). Checks in patients, ensuring appropriate fields are answered correctly, and provides return to work slips. Procures patient histories and other pertinent information, documents notes/messages to communicate with the technologists. Completes and/or scans required forms. Understands downtime process. Knowledge of all registration screens, basic understanding of insurance and the billing process as it applies to Imaging patient exams. Demonstrates proficiency in use of PACS as required or defined by modality leaders. Trains other department staff, monitors performance, resolves issues; collaborates with RIS experts when needed.
  • Provides a positive teaching environment and serves as a role model for coworkers and new staff. Demonstrates willingness and aptitude for learning, performing, and teaching new procedures and protocols.
  • Regularly stocks supplies, cleans work areas, and ensures all patient care areas are clean and well-organized. Helps to disinfect patient care rooms and equipment between patient use. Reports any identified equipment malfunctions to leader or department leads.
  • Demonstrates flexibility with staffing including weekend and holiday coverage (where applicable).
  • Assists with image printing, image import, digitizing, and release of information where applicable.

Knowledge – Skills – Abilities

Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when performing care, resolving patient care problems and dealing with patients and families. Ability to use general medical support equipment, including patient lifting devices; understand and follow instructions, as well as give clear directions to patients and others in need of assistance and guidance; good listening skills. Ability to use standard office equipment including computers, fax, copy, document scanners, and tube stations. Knowledge of basic medical terminology and human anatomy.
