ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND

CANDIDATE PROFILE:
Latino Network seeks a bilingual, mission-driven professional with bicultural proficiency and proven experience in supporting program participants seeking career track employment, particularly in the community health worker field, as well as in training and implementation of community health programming. The CHW Job Coach will work collaboratively with participants, team members and key external partners to ensure all graduates of Latino Network’s CHW Training Programs receive their OHA CHW certification. They will also support the implementation of CHW training.
The CHW Job Coach must have experience in the certification process for CHWs, the job market for CHWs and in conducting training. They will work closely with the Health and Wellness Program Manager as well as other staff across the organization to coordinate the development, implementation and evaluation aspects of the program. The CHW Job Coach will be self-motivated, have excellent communication skills, be able to implement complex projects, develop timelines, and promote Latino Network’s vision and mission. The ideal candidate will have two years of relevant health care program experience and excellent follow through; high attention to detail; professional writing skills; and excellent communication through in person meetings, phone, e-mail, and group communication with Latino Network community partners, staff, and program participants.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Community Health Workers (CHWs) are frontline public health workers who are trusted members of and/or have an unusually close understanding of the community served. This trusting relationship enables CHWs to serve as a liaison/link/intermediary between health/social services and the community to facilitate access to services and improve the quality and cultural competence of service delivery.
This position will support the success of the CHW Training Program by developing a process to support CHW graduates in obtaining their OHA certification, supporting them in identifying and applying for jobs in the CHW field, and supporting the development of our CHW curricula. The job will include coordination of program implementation, data entry, and attending meetings with internal and external partners. This role will create strong ties with hiring managers in other agencies in order to best support CHWs wanting to enter the field and support CHWs in writing a strong resume and cover letters and navigating a job interview.
This position requires a bilingual, flexible, self-directed person, with bi-cultural familiarity who is excellent at handling various situations. They must have strong skills to search and resource needed information.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develops a process to support CHW graduates in obtaining their OHA certification
- Works closely with OHA’s Traditional Health Worker team
- Provides support to CHW graduates in writing strong resumes, cover letters and preparing for interviews as they seek employment in the CHW field
- Carries out the program implementation plans, including logistics, coordinating with other teams and departments within Latino Network, outreach and recruiting, and data collection
- Supports development of curricula and train and support staff and community members
- Implements program specific evaluation and assessment plans developed in-house or with program partners, including inputting data into multiple databases
- Connects with other similar community-based programs to learn from and/or collaborate, if appropriate
- Builds a network of agencies who are hiring CHWs to learn about their processes, communicate about job openings and prepare interested candidates.
- Documents program practices and methods for program sustainability
- Provides information for program updates and reports as necessary for funders
- Attends relevant local conferences and trainings to inform best practices
- Establishes a safe and fun environment where participants are encouraged and supported in the development and strengthening of social, leadership, and academic skills and behaviors
- Interrupts negative behaviors and language regarding gender, sexual orientation, violence, etc. firmly, compassionately and without stigmatizing participants
- Demonstrates leadership to ensure conduct, safety, accountability, and development of participants
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor
By nature of our service to K-12 school districts, this position is subject to the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) mandate requiring all employees to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or qualification for a medical or religious exemption. - Education in health-related field OR a Community Health Worker certification, OR equivalent skills, experience and training; AND
- Two years coordinating relevant health programs
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in Spanish and English required
- Experience in implementing programs for Latinos, preferred
- Knowledge of current job market for CHWs
- Experience in training or coaching staff or peers in essential skills for job interviews and resume building
- Demonstrated ability in creating and maintaining relationships with other agencies
- Knowledge of culturally based world view, adaptive reasoning, and problem solving practices of Latino individuals, families, and community living in urban neighborhoods impacted by crime, poverty, and racial inequity
- Knowledge of, or willingness to learn about trauma informed care and strengths-based practices
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with community partners
- Strong organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Ability to follow direction and implement strategies
- Ability to be flexible and adaptive to successfully achieve the functions of the position as described in the job responsibilities

ADDITIONAL ADMINISTRATIVE REQUIREMENTS
- Successful completion of initial and ongoing employment screens, including but not limited to criminal background and vehicle record as required
- Must have a valid Driver’s License, reliable transportation and the ability to meet individuals in their own homes, academic settings, and other community settings, including transporting participants as needed. Automobile liability insurance preferred; must also be eligible to be an insured driver under Latino Network’s Commercial Auto Liability
- Temporarily working remotely during Covid-19 related office use restrictions in place. Ability to report to physical in person work location including office and in the community (schools, churches, parks, community centers, etc.) as needed.
- Evening and weekend availability required. Work hours are flexible to accommodate program implementation; long hours during peak periods.

This position will work from home and onsite as needed depending on the project or coverage needed. The employee may be required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to use hands and fingers to type or dial, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and reach with hands and arms. The employee may be required to perform minimal heavy lifting and walking during peak events and prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
