Children's Camp Leader (Campo) Job at San Ysidro Health
Position Summary:
Under the supervision of Camp Program Coordinator and Camp Leader, assist in the supervision of assigned children’s group activities, instructional activities, and overall safety and well-being of young campers. Assist in the implementation of approved curriculum, collection of information, and general reporting. Adhere to San Ysidro Health, Department of Health, OSHA, and County of San Diego guidelines, policies, and regulation.

Essential Functions of the Job:
- Assist with maintaining a positive, safe, nurturing environment, free of bullying and free of inappropriate physical contact. Report all unsafe situations.
- Relay concerns of the staff, campers, and general public to the Camp Program Coordinator.
- Assist in mentorship of campers. Set example for children in program.
- Assist with the maintenance of camper schedules, activities, and arrival/departure time.
- Assist in providing educational and recreational opportunities and enjoyable experiences for camp participants.
- Assist in the supervision of children and ensure their safety, development, growth, skill-building, and general well-being.
- Assist in the implementation of camp curriculum.
- Assist Camp Program Coordinator in maintaining accurate program records, attendance logs, incident reports, surveys, and any other required documentation.
- Follow food safety guidelines to reduce risk of foodborne illnesses.
- Assist in the tracking of camper food allergens and medical needs.
- Assist with other tasks as directed by Program Coordinator and Program Manager.
Education Required (Minimum level of education):
- Currently enrolled in grade school
- Prefer but not required, someone with children’s camp experience
- Minor Job Permit
- Preferred: CPR Card
- Preferred: Food Handler’s Card
Administrative support:
- Have Microsoft, Excel, Publisher, Access, PowerPoint, Project, SharePoint and other program knowledge to compile and create reports are needed. Ability to learn new information systems and software programs.
- Experience with customer service and public relations
- Strong verbal and written reporting; strong organizational skills; ability to multitask and step into different types of roles within the Community Center
- Self-starter with good critical thinking abilities
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and effectively adapt to a fast-paced changing work environment
- Has organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills
- Detail- and process-oriented with focus on efficiency
- Read and write; time management, great interpersonal skills, organized, and business math skills; analyze, research, prioritize, meet deadlines, maintain confidentiality, likes to work with children.
- Repetitive hand movement; use and view PC; use calculator; telephone, operate fax, and copy machine.
- Normal office environment. See, hear, talk, walk, stand for long periods of time, reach, bend, stoop, and lift up to 25 - 30 lbs. Have reliable transportation; clean driving record and insurance as required by the state. Be willing to utilize vehicle to assist with mission if necessary.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evening and weekend work hours.
