Welcome Child Development Center (MTW) is an entity of Phyllis Wheatley Community Center (PWCC). MTW has been providing early childcare and education since 1929. We use Creative Curriculum® for Pre-school—a widely used, comprehensive curriculum based on children development and early education research and theory—offering a variety of learning experiences to foster the children’s physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development within a nurturing and caring environment.

JOB SUMMARY: Use Creative Curriculum for Pre-school ages to offer a variety of learning experiences. The teaching staff provides culturally appropriate and stimulating experiences for infants (6-weeks old) to five (5) years old. Our services, programs and offerings include:
- Science, math, writing, art, music, and pre-reading curriculum
- Problem solving and conflict resolution
- Learning through play
- Daily nutritional meals and snacks
- Support and parent involvement opportunities
- Low staff-to-child ratio
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Hire, engage, and develop a team of “best-in-class” educators to be passionate and committed professionals.
- Cultivate positive relationships with families using different programs including Parent Engagement group, Read to a Scholar, etc.
- Continue to develop relationships with state licensing authorities, community contacts, and organizational partners, including NAZ and United Way.
- Leverage business, sales, and marketing savvy to grow MTW in the community, leading to the growth of new families and children at the Center.
- Develop annual plan and budget to achieve revenue goal.
- Manage MTW assistant direct, staff by planning work schedules, evaluating staff performance, and developing performance improvement plans.
- Implement the Creative Curriculum© and Teaching Strategies Gold®, which includes coaching, communicating, and interpreting standards with teachers.
- Ensure all monthly reports and observations are completed.
- Be accountable for the operation of MTW, ensuring that it is functioning in accordance with PWCC’s organizational policies, National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation and state licensing standards.
- Be responsible for ensuring an educational, caring, and safe environment for the children and parents.
- Promote the positive image of MTW and the major role in making it a provider of choice in educational programs for the communities that we service.
- Spark imagination, build self-esteem, and help children discover new things each day.
- Meet with Northside Achievement Zone (NAZ) Representative to discuss scholarships and enrollment opportunities for students.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
- BA in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or related field preferred
- Meet state mandated reporter requirements
- Minimum five (5) years of strong leadership experience with the ability to develop, engage, and inspire a team
- Must meet state requirements for education as required by Minnesota Department of Human Services
- Experience working with persons of diverse cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; computer experience required, proficiency in Microsoft applications.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to build relationships with families and staff to create a dynamic environment
- Outstanding customer service skills, strong organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task and manage multiple situations effectively
- Budget and financial accountability with revenue-generating experience preferred
- Knowledge of NAEYC and state licensing requirements
- Must be physically able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds and assume postures in low positions to allow for physical and visual contact with children
- Vision and hearing capacities must be well enough to see and hear children to ensure safety
- Minimum requirement of at least one year of pre-school management experience
- Must be a team builder, highly organized, and possess excellent customer service/communication skills
- Must be able to manage a team of 10+ teachers and support staff, including an assistant director
- Must be flexible and energetic
- Must understand Procare©, Teaching Strategies Gold© and Creative Curriculum©
- Ability to juggle multiple duties
- Must be detail oriented
- Ability to resolve conflicts
- Computer proficient in Word, Excel, and ability to learn other programs quickly
