JOB TITLE: Chaplain

DEPARTMENT: Administration

REPORTS TO: Administrator, Willows Health Center with a secondary reporting relationship to the President/CEO.

QUALIFICATIONS: Master of Divinity from an accredited theological seminary ordained by a major Christian denomination preferred. Two to five years pastoral experience preferred.

Strong spiritual, conceptual, written and oral communication skills. Experience in program planning with demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Ability to interface at all levels of the organization.

Possess excellent public speaking and presentation skills.


HOURS: Minimum 40 hours per week, or as many hours as required to meet job expectations, based on a Sunday through Thursday schedule including weekend, holiday and other alternate hours as required.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


Pastoral Care


1. Develop and administer a program of pastoral care designed to minister to the spiritual needs of residents appropriate to their religious tradition and level of care integrating that program within the total structure and philosophy of Wesley Willows.


2. Assess and chart all residents in intermediate and skilled care. Participate, as available, in the care plan process.


3. Consult and coordinate with staff, parish clergy, physicians and families. Be sensitive to issues of resident rights and confidentiality.


4. Provide counsel to residents, families and employees.


5. Assist in the orientation process of new residents of Wesley Willows.


6. Visit hospitalized residents (and employees as time permits).


7. Conduct learning experiences in pastoral care and spiritual development for residents and staff.


Worship Responsibility:


1. Develop and administer a program of worship in keeping with the traditions of the Christian faith expressed within the ecumenical creeds, in accordance with the sponsoring body of the United Methodist Church, and appropriate to the level of care.


2. Provide regular opportunities for worship as well as at special times and holy days appropriate for each facility.


3. Administer the Sacrament of Holy Communion at least monthly at a chapel service to all who desire to receive it and to individuals upon request.


4. Anoint the sick and pray for their healing both in public and private worship.


5. Encourage a continuing and faithful relationship with resident's parish and preferred tradition.


Service Responsibility:

1. Develop and administer programs of Christian service which enable and empower residents, families, employees, parishes and community volunteers to express themselves in Christian discipleship.


2. Coordinate Bible study, prayer group, and issue orientated activities.


3. Consult with parishes in the organizing and training of lay volunteers in pastoral care ministries. Enlist volunteers for ministry within areas of care, worship and service.


4. Promote the pastoral care ministry and overall program of Wesley Willows corporations to parishes and community groups.


5. Serve on the Ethics Committee and other committees as assigned by the Administrator.


6. Serve as a resident advocate to Wesley Willows administration, staff and outside professionals, agencies and institutions.
