The CMA is a professional who works in tandem with the physician(s), physicians’ assistant, nurse practitioner, nursing staff, front desk staff, and business office staff to provide patients with excellent medical care in the most respectful and courteous manner. This is accomplished through the use of clinical knowledge, interpersonal, and administrative departmental interaction.

Required Attitude:

  • Ensure that all patients who visit our practice are made to feel welcome and comfortable.
  • Always remain friendly and polite whether on the phone or in an exam room with a patient.
  • Work as a team with physician(s), physician assistants, medical assistants, business office, front desk staff, and any other members of the practice.

In-Office Patient Care:
Escort patients to the exam I treatment room

1. Take vitals (height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, and pulse).
2. Question the patient about medications in use and all types of allergies known to the patient.
3. Document allergy information obtained from the patient in the electronic medical record system.
4. Question the patient about their general health as well as the specifics of the need for the current visit.

Assist the physician with treatment(s) and procedure(s):

1. Dressing changes
2. Suture and staple placement and/or removal
3. Application and removal of casts

Educate the patient on the treatments, procedures, and tests ordered.

1. Explain to the patient the preparation required prior to any testing and/or procedures
2. Explain how and where to get tests performed by third-party labs

Clinical Supply Ordering:

  • Maintain appropriate level of clinical supplies in each exam I procedure room and the medical supplies storeroom
  • Order all necessary clinical supplies for the office
  • Check sample medication inventory weekly to verify expiration dates and remove expired inventory from stock.

Office Maintenance:

  • Follow OSHA standards in cleaning exam I procedure room{s} after each patient visit
  • Re-stock rooms with medical supplies at the end of each day
  • Clean and perform routine maintenance on equipment per the monthly maintenance schedule
  • Maintenance and calibration of all office testing equipment in accordance with AAAASF standards.

Miscellaneous Daily Activities:

1. Open exam & treatment rooms each morning
2. Distribute physician appointment schedules to appropriate staff.
3. Pharmacy messages & patient prescription refill requests - take messages off of voice mail each hour, and document the time and date each message was received and any action taken in the patient's chart.
4. Prepares equipment and aids physician{s} during treatment, examination, and testing of patients
5. Ensures appointment preferences are given to patients in emergency situations. Greets patients and prepares them for physician examination.
6. Empty biohazard bags in exam rooms.
7. Maintains / reviews patient records, charts and other pertinent information.
8. Responds to / refers incoming patient treatment-related phone calls. Instructs patient and/or family regarding medications and treatment instructions
9. Maintains patient confidentiality.

Experience: Minimum of one year clinic experience with cast application preferred.
