Doctors Clinic Position


Position Summary The employee will perform a combination of the following duties under direction of a physician; screen
all patients for medical histories, recording vital signs, EKG. Recording X-Ray and or Sonogram in
patient medical record charts. Prepare patient for examination and may or occasionally assist the
physician as necessary during the examination. The Medical Assistant is responsible to maintaining
Check-In/Sign in Sheet; confirm patient demographic and insurance information; to include verification
of insurance; document appropriate information on the physician encounter form and or system
electronic medical record; scheduling of patients for follow up as necessary; collect and prepare
laboratory specimens, phlebotomy. Ensure the appropriate disposal of contaminated supplies; prepare
instruments for sterilization; responsible for stocking examination rooms; order supplies as necessary.

Requirements * Operate equipment and perform EKG as indicated.
  • Prepare patient medical record (chart) and or EMR with appropriate intake sheets.
  • Gather information, complaints, take vital signs, perform various tests as ordered.
  • Logging in patient medical record and or EMR Laboratory and Radiology results.
  • Ability to perform directives as requested by the various physicians.
  • Completing various forms for Medical; Physical; Disability; and Schools.
  • Track inventory for supplies, vaccines etc.
  • Interview patient.
  • Setting up examination rooms for various primary and specialty care physicians.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Distribute appropriate educational material to patient as directed.
  • Assisting in the authorization of prescription refills as directed by the physician.
  • Recall or Rescheduling of patients as instructed.
  • Trained in the area of Medical Assisting with certification from a Vocational/Technical or career
program.
  • Skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff.
  • Securing and ensuring Confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Able to communicate effectively and maintain patient records, files, report and other
correspondence.
  • Registration, including insurance verification copay collection referral processing authorization
for radiology exam.
  • Intake of patients medical history prior to provider examination, complete time out form, point
of care testing including nasal and throat swab, CIR updating and STD reporting.
  • Track temperature in refrigerator/freezer; complete appropriate forms.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Manual Skills Some (less than 50%) portions of daily assignments involve application of manual skills requiring motor
coordination in combination with finger dexterity.
Physical Effort Some (less than 50%) portions of daily assignments involve prolonged standing, transporting patients,
material, or equipment, or lifting, moving, or carrying heavy (over 30 lbs.) materials for intermittent
periods throughout the day.
Physical Some (less than 50%) portions of daily assignments involve exposure to dirt, odors, noise, or some
Occupational Risks Some (less than 50%) portions of daily assignments involve occupational risk, such as cuts, burns,
exposure to toxic chemicals, injuries from falls, or back injury sustained with assisting in
moving/lifting/positioning patients, equipment, or materials.
Bloodborne OSHA Category I - Routine / anticipated exposure. Work involves exposure to blood, body fluids, or

Position Requirements
This position requires a minimum formal education of High School Diploma or equivalent and a
minimum of 1 year job-related experience.
Desired (not required) criteria include: Certification and Training from a Vocational/Technical or
Career Program.
License, Medical Assistant Certification
Customer and service excellence skills. Basic computer skils. Ability to read, write and speak English.
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
