Provide case management and oversight of children in out-of-home placements, recruit for adoptive placements, and transition children into adoptive homes. Help find and facilitate permanent connections for children and youth.

Examples of Duties for Success

  • Conduct home visits, which can include long distance travel.
  • Monitor children's safety and well-being.
  • Achieve permanency through adoption as soon as quickly as possible.
  • Engage with and develop supportive relationships with foster, adoptive, and kin placement providers.
  • Engage with, support, and advocate for children of all ages.
  • Seek out and engage with permanent connections and potential placement options, including birth family members.
  • Attend court hearings.
  • Attend additional meetings in the community, including schools.
  • Complete required documentation and meet deadlines.
  • Make treatment referrals.
  • Participate in Red Teams, Permanency Roundtables, and other meetings on regular basis.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications for Success

  • Knowledge of child protection and impact of trauma/victimization on family systems and child development.
  • Knowledge of computer applications such as MS Office.

Experience:
  • One (1) year of full time professional social casework experience, acquired after the degree in a public or private social services agency, in an area appropriate to the position.
Education and Training:
  • Bachelor's Degree in one of the human behavioral science fields.
  • An MSW may substitute for all of the required experience.
  • An educational waiver is available for those individuals who do not meet the education requirements to be a social caseworker and are currently enrolled in a bachelor’s program from a higher education institute. A bachelor’s degree must be obtained within one (1) year from hire date with related coursework to job duties as outlined in 7.603.1 (click here for more info). If a degree is not obtained within one (1) year from hire date, employment with the agency may be impacted including, and up to termination. Employee will be responsible for updating the hiring manager every six (6) months of their education progress.
  • Proof of education, (degree or transcripts), and license (if candidate has received one) are required.
License or Certificate:
  • Colorado Child Welfare Caseworker certification required and must be completed within three (3) months of employment, through the Colorado Training Academy (State Child Welfare). Certification through another State will require proof of completion and may substitute for all or part of the training required by Colorado.

  • Possession of a valid driver's License and proof of automotive insurance.
Background Check:
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
