The role of the Case Manager in supporting students and the USD Community responsibilities of the position are significantly tethered in the university's contemporary Roman Catholic mission and commitment to creating an equitable, welcoming community for all.

Reporting to the Associate Dean for Student Success, case managers serve a key role in fostering a welcoming, affirming and inclusive environment at USD. Anchored in the complementary principles and the thriving student, the Case Manager supports students in their successful navigation and connection to campus resources.

Specifically, the Case Manager is responsible for fostering student wellbeing through the creation of data-driven, inclusive, and team-based Care Plans to support individual students throughout the USD undergraduate community. The Case Manager will serve as a primary contact for identifying students who need support (including mental-health issues, relationship conflicts, social adjustment, academic challenges, family concerns, and more).

Using USD’s Thriving Student Model as a framework, the Case Manager works closely with key campus partners to support coordinated care and advocacy for students facing obstacles in their lives. More specifically, the Case Manager triages issues, provides referrals, coordinates and communicates with partners, ensures follow-up, and maintains thorough, accurate, and timely records. Additionally, the Case Manager elevates concerns to the Behavioral Intervention Team, Title IX, Student Conduct, CARE Advocates, Academic Advisors, Residential Life and other campus partners as appropriate. The Case Manager will also work closely with the One Stop support center, as appropriate and as determined during the realignment of the One Stop Center.

Duties and Responsibilities

Student & Advocacy

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for students who need support, including mental- health issues, relationship conflicts, social adjustment, financial needs, academic challenges, and family concerns, among others.
  • Triage issues; support students through mentoring and referral to resources; coordinate and communicate with partners; ensure follow-up; and maintain thorough, accurate, and timely documentation.
  • Create a data-driven, inclusive, and team-based case-management plan to support individual students.
  • Work closely with Care Team, the Bias Incident Response Team, Office of Ethical Development and Restorative Practices, One Stop, Academic Affairs, and Title IX to coordinate care and elevate issues and concerns, as needed.
  • Case Managers may be asked to develop expertise in supporting students from specific demographic groups, such as underrepresented students of color and first-generation students.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Serves on multi-disciplinary team, convened by the Dean of Students/Associate Dean of Students to foster a cohesive, holistic, and supportive USD experience.
  • Works closely with the Wellness Team; College of Arts and Sciences dean’s office, Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering Dean’s office, Knauss School of Business Dean’s office; Residential Life, Community Development & Leadership team, and more to support coordinated care and advocacy for students facing obstacles and barriers which impede their academic and other success.
  • Works in partnership with the other Case Manager(s) on campus and the Center for Student Success team to support students under holistic model.
  • Works with colleagues across the Division of Student Affairs to connect students to relationships and campus engagement opportunities.
  • Develops resource materials and presents in-person and/or virtual workshops.
  • Periodically, this position may be asked to lead or contribute to either ad hoc or ongoing division/campus projects outside the scope of their day-to-day activities.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Demonstrated deep commitment to inclusive and diverse practices that recognize intersectionality and multiple identities in support of student wellbeing and development.
  • Experience advising, coaching and/or providing advocacy for students in a higher education environment.
  • Experience managing sensitive and private information with a high level of discretion.
  • Candidate should be team oriented and demonstrate adaptability, initiative, and the ability to respond effectively to crises.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • 1-3 years of professional experience in higher education, social work, or other related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree preferred in Higher Education, Social Work, Counseling or related field
  • Crises management experience preferred.
  • Willingness to support the Catholic mission and vision of the University.
  • Demonstrated practice of centering diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism in one’s work, including an ongoing commitment to personal learning and development in this area.
  • Experience, knowledge and demonstrated practice of cultural competency and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to handle several projects simultaneously.

Posting Salary:

$5,373.33 - $5,867.92 per month; Excellent Benefits
