About GAF – Mount Vernon, Indiana
Mount Vernon, Indiana is located about 20 miles west of Evansville, along the Ohio River. The GAF site in Mount Vernon was founded in 1973 and produces a wide variety of products, including both residential and commercial roofing materials. Our 88 acre site has recently undergone many exciting changes, including the addition of an onsite warehouse and expansion of our production team! There’s never been a better time to join our team!
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
As a Buyer you will support various Purchasing and Logistics initiatives across the site. You will report directly to the Supply Chain Manager.
- Ensure all purchases are made in accordance with company policies and procedures. Establish purchase orders and contracts, as appropriate. Maintain appropriate documentation and files for all purchases made.
- Identify cost saving opportunities using competitive bidding, negotiations, and drive service improvements.
- Work with accounting to resolve any problems that might arise over bulk material delivery discrepancies and/or receiving problems, past dues, and invoice issues.
- Interact with R&D, Transportation, Manufacturing and Corporate Purchasing to facilitate new source development, qualification and implementation.
- Monitor delivery of materials and services to ensure the production needs of the Plants are met, while certifying that all purchases meet volume requirements and commitments.
- May prepare and execute in conjunction with the Legal Department and Corporate Purchasing, supply agreements which fully protect the company against missed deliveries, shortages and outages, poor material quality, and other performance issues that could affect production.
- Work closely with Plant personnel to locate and develop new sources of supply and offer lower cost alternatives.
- Participate in teams to gain an understanding of the needs of the Plant.
- Monitor market conditions to keep abreast of potential changes that could affect costs and/or schedules.
- Develop goals and objectives in line with Corporate Purchasing Goals and Objectives. Partner with Corporate Purchasing with the administration of major raw material purchases.
- Back up and assist with MRO Purchasing and Plant Management.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to climb stairs. Frequent sitting, walking and standing, and occasional climbing, stooping kneeling and crouching.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Oral and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication as well as communication through automated devices such as the telephone.
- Frequent use of eye, hand, and finger coordination enabling the use of office machinery.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree
- Three years of experience in a Purchasing function to include working directly with suppliers and contractors.
- Demonstrated experience working in a customer-focused and multi-functional team environment.
- Understanding of standard Purchasing concepts, practices, and procedures, as well as having intermediate knowledge of MRP systems such as PeopleSoft and Maximo.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus.
