Under general direction, identifies and makes recommendations to resolve business process challenges in the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) and school districts and identifies, creates, and codes various reports and dashboards for end-users.
The Well Qualified Candidate Will Possess the Following
Knowledge:
- Data access through the use of SQL and Business Intelligence (BI) software such as Business Object, Microsoft Power BI, or equivalent data retrieval tools
- BI practices and related technologies
- Principles of data integration and tools
- Principles of data modeling and data visualization practices
- System analysis and design techniques
- Analyzing & Interpreting Data – Drawing meaning and conclusions from quantitative and/or qualitative data
- Decision Making – Choosing optimal courses of action in a timely manner
- Professional & Technical Expertise – Applying technical subject matter to the job
- Innovation – Imagining and devising new and better ways of doing things
- Self-Management – Showing personal organization, self-discipline, and dependability
- Oral Communication – Engaging effectively in dialogue
- Writing – Communicating effectively in writing
- Customer Focus – Attending to the needs and expectation of customers
- Handling Conflict – Managing interpersonally strained situations
- Teamwork – Collaborating with others to achieve shared goals
- Managing Change – Addressing key factors that influence successful organizational change
- Leveraging Technology – Applying technology for improvements in organizational efficiency and effectiveness
- Project Management – Planning and tracking projects to ensure they are on-time, on-budget, and achieve their objectives
- Cultural Proficiency – Modeling communications and interactions that respect and include all individuals and their languages, abilities, religions and cultures
Experience: Three years of experience with data modeling, gathering and writing business requirements, and developing business reports and/or dashboards.
Additional Requirements: Certification in Business Intelligence, such as Certified Business Intelligence Professional (CBIP) credential, are desired. A valid California driver's license and the availability of private transportation or the ability to obtain transportation between job sites is required.
Hybrid remote schedules may be available. To ensure the health and safety of its staff, LACOE may require employees to provide evidence of full vaccination against COVID-19.
Selection Process Candidates who meet the minimum requirements above will be invited to participate in an examination that may consist of a Performance Exam and Structured Interview.

Candidates who pass all exam parts are ranked according to overall exam score and placed on an eligibility (hiring) list. Vacant positions are filled from the top three ranks. Eligibility lasts for 12 months; however, additional recruitment may occur under a separate bulletin with additional candidates being merged onto the eligibility list. Some positions that involve public contact may require bilingual proficiency for which selective certification may apply (Education Code 45277.5). In addition, the eligibility list resulting from this examination may be used to fill vacancies in related job classifications for which no eligibility list exists (Education Code 45272).
