The Georgia MBDA Business Center is part of a national network of over 80 centers and projects throughout the country funded by the Department of Commerce Minority Business Development Agency to help grow and strengthen Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs). The Georgia MBDA Business Center is operated through the Enterprise Innovation Institute, a unit of the Georgia Institute of Technology. The Center’s mission is to help MBEs experience significant growth, create and retain jobs, and become sustainable thereby having an overall positive economic impact on communities and the nation. Location


This position is hybrid: remote and onsite. The primary office location is at Georgia Tech in Atlanta. However, incumbent in this position is expected to travel state-wide and remain flexible to on-site daily service delivery hours (due to client schedules and/or project requirements).

Job Summary


This position directly supports the extension, service, and economic development missions of Georgia Tech to the State of Georgia and beyond. Primarily this position serves in the Georgia Tech Enterprise Innovation Institute’s Georgia Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) Business Center. As part of a national network of centers and special projects throughout the country, the Georgia MBDA Business Center helps grow and strengthen Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs). The Business Advisor will assist MBEs in Georgia and beyond to identify funding and contracting opportunities, build capacity within their businesses, and connect to resources and expertise to growth their businesses.

This position vacancy is an open rank announcement. Final job offer will be dependent on candidate qualifications in alignment with Research Faculty Extension Professional ranks as outlined in section 3.2.1 of the Georgia Tech Faculty Handbook.

Responsibilities

  • Assist clients in formulation and management of strategic plans.
  • Advise clients regarding sources of financial assistance (debt and equity funding).
  • Provide technical assistance and advice to help companies build capacity for their businesses
  • Serve as a resource connector for companies, maintain a working knowledge of current training, grants, contracts, and finance opportunities for businesses
  • Monitor client progress and offer corrective actions as appropriate.
  • Develop and present seminars for businesses that foster success and growth.
  • Establish working relationships with resource providers.
  • Serve as a representative of the Center in the community, on panels and other outreach initiatives.
  • Meet and report metrics defined by federal sponsor.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications


Final rank will be determined commensurate with education and experience

Extension Professional I

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economic Development or related/relevant field.

Extension Professional II

  • A Master’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Econmic Development or related/relevant field and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree, or
  • A Master’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economic Development or related/relevant field and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economic Development or related/relevant field.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Preferred Education: MBA and/or Master’s Degree in related/relevant field.
  • Preferred Skills/Work Experience: Seven or more years job-related work experience with demonstrated experience in helping businesses achieve success. Knowledge of financing businesses and the ability to read and understand financial statements. This job requires working knowledge of general management principles and processes as it relates to business enterprises. This includes, but is not limited to an understanding of the relationships and interdependencies between operating departments, including finance, sales/marketing, operations, human resources, and management, information systems.

Additional skills required include: developing and delivering presentations, customer service, financial analysis, and use of business/office related computer applications. Candidate will serve as the face of the Center and should be comfortable interacting with all types of audiences, communities, and businesses.

  • Strong interpersonal skills are needed
  • Willingness to travel
  • Proficiency in one, or more, foreign language(s) is a plus

Proposed Salary


Salary range: $75,000 - $85,000
