Primary Purpose:

To ride the bus and help ensure students are transported safely and efficiently.

Qualifications:

Must be 18 years of age or older

Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English

Education/Certification:

High School diploma or GED

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to respond in emergency situations

Ability to understand and follow written or verbal instructions

Ability to operate safety equipment and adaptive equipment Ability to manage student behavior

Ability to work well with children with disabilities

Ability to work as a team with the bus driver

Experience:

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Student Management

1. Assist students on and off the bus according to their individual needs

2. Follow established safety procedures and supervise students as they board and exit the bus and cross the stre

3. Instruct students on safe entering, exiting, and riding

4. Learn and adapt to each student’s special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.

5. Manage student behavior according to CPI practices utilizing Nonviolent Physical Crisis Intervention as a last resort and reporting student discipline problems in a timely manner to transportation and the appropriate administrator

6. Communicate with Supervisor of Operations regarding student behavior on the bus.

Routes and Schedules

7. Assist with completing and maintaining accurate, updated, and timely records and reports including daily attendance.

Safety

8. Operate equipment according to established safety procedures. Make sure that all safety equipment is used correctly, i.e. seat belts, harnesses, and help students use safety devises when needed.

9. Assist with emergency procedures including evacuation of students as needed and administering first aid, if necessary.

Other

10. Assist driver in keeping the bus clean.

11. Attend monthly Safety Meetings and Special Needs Driver/Bus Monitor Meetings.

12. Perform other duties as assigned.

Posture: Frequent standing and sitting; kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Lifting: Frequent heavy lifting (45 pounds or over) and positioning of students with physical disabilities, controlling behavior through physical restraint, assisting nonambulatory students, and lifting and moving adaptive equipment

Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise and vehicle fumes; exposure to biological hazards (bacteria, communicable diseases); work around vehicles and machinery with moving parts; may work irregular or prolonged hours

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
