This building inspector position typically will focus primarily on electrical inspections. Duties include conducting electrical, building and Certificate of Occupancy inspections; investigating complaints and recommending corrective action as necessary; and providing electrical, building code, and zoning ordinance information to the public, City staff, contractors, architects and engineers. Duties will involve both working in an office environment and conducting on-site electrical and building inspections. A high school diploma or equivalent plus some college or vocational training in a related field and two years inspections experience required; electrical training and experience in the electrical field desired. Strong construction background in areas of electrical or construction management may be accepted in lieu of inspections experience. Additional specialized training in construction and bilingual (English / Spanish) skills beneficial. Possession of a journeyman electrician’s license preferred. Must have a valid Class C Texas driver’s license.

PAY GRADE GG17 / FULL PAY RANGE $23.50 – $33.14 PER HOUR

  • Individuals hired into this position will receive $500 after their first 30 days of employment provided there are no documented attendance or disciplinary issues.
  • Employees that successfully complete their 6-month orientation period will receive an additional one-time payment of $500 provided there are no documented attendance or disciplinary issues.
  • Employees that successfully complete one year of employment without
    documented attendance or disciplinary issues will receive an additional one-time payment of $500.
  • The maximum amount of hiring incentive that an individual employee may receive is $1,500.
