Position Description & Details
To prepare and maintain interior and exterior athletic facilities such as football fields, tracks, basketball and tennis courts for varsity athletics, physical education and civic events.
- Maintain, clean, and resurface floor areas including 44,000 square feet of synthetic material in the main arena used for basketball, volleyball, track, and physical education classes
- Maintain, clean, and resurface hardwood floor areas including 4 racquetball courts at the Dome
- Maintain, clean, and resurface concrete areas in all corridors
- Participate in the collection and removal of waste by the use of tractor mounted brooms and refuse (leaf) blowers
- General painting performed to walls and floors
- Operate, service and repair all associated cleaning equipment such as riding floor scrubber, walk behind floor scrubber, propane and electric buggers, refuse blowers, and vacuums
- Set up, operate, and service athletic/building equipment such as electric/hydraulic basketball goals, scoreboards, field phones, public address and sound systems
- May supervise students.
Maintain exterior athletic facilities, which include Herb Parker Stadium and practice football fields and adjacent track/tennis area, along with the immediate grounds.
- Plant, fertilize, water, prune, seed, and propagate grasses, bushes, and trees by operating push/riding garden tractors, chain saws, and weed whips
- Utilize soil tests to apply and operate seeders, fertilizers and aerators for proper growing, and wee/insect control
- Set up and rotate irrigation pipe to accomplish the water requirements of the fields and surrounding grass/shrubbery areas
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance to the asphalt track and servicing associated ground equipment
- Interpret NAIA rule book to determine painting requirements of the football fields, shot-put, javelin, discus and other track and field facilities
- Operate and maintain motorized field painting equipment along with proper mixing of paints
- Requires use of stencils, diagrams, and measuring devices
- Clear snow from entrances, stairs and walkways by use of hand shovels, walk behind snow blowers, or tractors with attachments
- May supervise student workers.
Facility set up for university related and public events
- Check out, set up, and take down portable electric/hydraulic basketball goals, volleyball standards/nets/referee stands, hurdles, high jump, long jump, and pole vault pits.
- Set up and wire scoreboards, clocks, field phones, public address and sound systems
- Staging, risers, 8’ folding tables and folding chairs and similar furnishings or equipment used for activities such as athletic events, graduations, conventions or concerts
- Operate and set up retractable seating/bleacher units with a capacity of 9600
- May supervise student workers
Minimum Requirements
- One year of custodial or facility maintenance experience including tasks such as gardening, landscaping, or grounds keeping
- Requires use/operation of: Hand and Bench tools, forklift, riding scrubbers, walk behind buffers and scrubbers, lawn/garden tractors, paint sprayers, public address and lighting systems.
