Introduction
Work in the Wisconsin State Patrol Chemical Testing Laboratory as a Breath Alcohol Quality Chemist (Chemist-Advanced)! This professional position provides specialized, technical, and analytical leadership and support for the Chemical Test Breath Alcohol program in the Bureau of Transportation Safety and Technical Services.
The Chemical Testing Section regulates and coordinates the breath alcohol testing activities of all law enforcement agencies in the state. The scientific research performed by this position affects the activities of over 5,000 state certified breath test instrument operators. The research and support made available through this position ensures the quality of a breath alcohol test as a valid means of determining intoxication.
This position is headquartered on the east side of Madison, Wisconsin at the Chemical Test Lab in the Truax Building on Kinsman Boulevard.

Position Summary
This position provides specialized professional, technical, and analytical leadership and support for the Chemical Testing Section's Breath Alcohol Program as defined in Trans 343, 311, and 313. Responsibilities include:
- Administering the Ingnition Interlock program
- Providing implementation, maintenance, and adherence to the ISO 17025 quality standards
- Maintaining the quality system records for the Chemical Testing Section
- Overseeing the internal audit program
- Assisting with employee education and training
- Completing competency assessment and documentation
- Providing research, training, and scientific support
- Independently performing complex analyses
- Participating and directing method implementation and validation to include proficiency testing
- independently performing complex evaluations and comparisons
- Performing quality assurance procedures to maintain high standards for a quality work product
- Conducting related research
- Maintaining equipment
- Functioning as an expert with public and private agencies on highly technical and complex method development and research projects
Work assignments are complex and highly unique to Department business. The position regularly exercises great discretion through independent decision-making and problem resolution, frequently as a lead worker, team leader, project manager, and/or Department representative. This position regularly uses verbal and written communication skills for report writing and presenting.
This position also holds primary responsibility for the Department's Ignition Interlock Program as described in Trans rule 313.
Salary Information
This position is in schedule-range (15-03) with an annual salary of $60,465-$72,800, plus excellent benefits. A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

Qualifications
Qualified applicants will have experience with all the following:
- Training with the principles and practices of chemistry, biology, or other physical science field and modern laboratory methods, materials and equipment.
- Training or experience with quality control and/or quality assurance principles (e.g., ISO 17025 or comparable).
