Workforce Business Liaison at Easterseals Oregon, you will contribute to our mission by helping minorities with disabilities reach their full career potential. Assist individuals with transitioning into the workforce by providing career planning, coaching and support. You play an integral part in helping them discover their talents, abilities and interests. This position is Monday-Friday with occasional weekends.

Summary:
Performs job development services for participants that speak English as a second language with physical, emotional and/or medical disabilities. In our supported employment program, we assist minorities by creating, developing, and securing jobs in the community through building relationships with local employers through face- to-face contact, telephone and networking. We maintain awareness of the job market, employer’s needs and expectations, and attend/participate in job fairs, resource fairs and other events.

This position is responsible for developing partnerships with employers and community businesses and for placing participants that speak English as a second language into employment. The Workforce Business Liaison spends the majority of his/her time out of the office, meeting with employers/organizations using his/her bilingual abilities.
The Workforce Business Liaison will be someone who is comfortable making presentations to individuals and groups (English/Spanish) as well as working directly with participants.

Essential duties and responsibilities :
1. Match job seeking participants and employers using a variety of professional job placement skills.
2. Develop employment opportunities to match individual participant needs.
3. Input and maintain accurate records of participant progress in job search, case management and employment database using MS Word, Access and other software.

4. Work with Easterseals instructors to assure coordinated and streamlined services
5. Provide ongoing individual support and encouragement to participants
6. Develop and implement effective marketing strategies aimed at recruiting employers
7. Establish and cultivate relationships with businesses and develop employment opportunities with a variety of employers.
8. Make presentations to employers and other community organizations that result in placement opportunities for participants
9. Assist in completing required reports in a timely manner
10. Other duties as assigned.
11. Facilitate vocational classes, workshops and events as needed
12. Translate documents/flyers from English to Spanish or vice versa
13. Attend appropriate community professional meetings
14. Drive participants to job interviews or job opportunities
15. Provide translation/interpretation services for employers and participants
16. Assist participants in identifying employment barriers and helping them accessing resources needed such as housing, food, medical, clothing and other resources.

Skills & Abilities:

1. Ability to make formal business presentations to groups and individuals (English and/or Spanish)
2. Ability to maintain accurate records and necessary paperwork
3. Strong time management, follow through and organization skills
4. Ability to successfully interact and communicate clearly with a wide variety of people including employers, partnering agencies and co-workers (English and/or Spanish)
5. Must be creative, innovative, and be a progressive problem solver
6. Demonstrated ability to work without supervision
7. Ability to display a non-judgmental attitude and a willingness to learn new skills
8. Ability to effectively interact with coworkers and participants with diverse ethnic backgrounds, religious views, political affiliations, cultural backgrounds, life-styles and sexual orientations and treat each individual with respect and dignity.

9. Demonstrated knowledge of issues related to individuals with multiple barriers to employment.
10. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
11. Experience with job development
12. Demonstrated understanding of employer needs and labor market trends.
13. Ability to develop and maintain effective job development methods and employer relationships.
14. Demonstrated public speaking skills and the ability to develop written promotional materials and business correspondence.

Working Conditions:

  • Work with peers, subordinates, and supervisor in a collaborative manner
  • Work in an environment with frequent interruptions due to phone calls, and staff or participant needs.
  • Must have the ability to prioritize and work under timelines.
  • Some travel within the State is required and varies month to month (5% – 15%) Reliable transportation is essential, and travel is reimbursed at the federal mileage rate.
  • Occasional standing, walking, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling
  • Frequent repetitive motion for hands and arms
  • Daily office work environment may contain dust, heat, cold, noise

Minimum qualifications:
Prefer Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in a social services field; or two or more year’s related experience in the employment field working with minorities or individuals with disabilities, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

4. Availability to work some evenings and some weekends as required
5. Must possess a current driver’s license and pass a DMV background check.

Our facilities

Our administrative office is in Multnomah County, and we have 6 other office locations in the state of

Oregon. This position will be located at the Gresham office with occasional visits to service locations to meet with peers and participants as needed.
