If you have an interest in gaining experience within the mental health residential services field, this is the job for you. Marion County Health and Human Services is seeking a compassionate, energetic and flexible individual to work in its Horizon House Residential Treatment Facility. This individual will work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team to provide Person-Centered mental health treatment services in a 24 hour residential setting, serving adults with serious and persistent mental illness or chemical dependency. This position is opportunity to build experience working in a therapeutic milieu environment, administering medications, maintaining documentation and communication with staff, and transporting residents as needed - ODL is required. This is a potential opportunity to gain hours for credentialing. Temp/On-call positions generally help cover 8-10 hour shifts as needed, most emergent need is graveyard coverage. Temp/On-call Aide's are required to cover at least two shifts per month and may take on as many additional shifts as they are willing/able.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Assists in assessing health and social service needs of a specific population through home visits and visits to other agencies and social services resources; refers clients to appropriate resource; advocates to obtain required services as necessary; provides information and education on health-related issues.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general direction of a supervisor who assigns work, establishes goals and reviews the results obtained for overall effectiveness.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Supervision of other employees is not a responsibility of positions in this class.

Typical Duties - Duties include, but are not limited to the following

  • Provide oversight and Mental Health services in a residential setting serving adults with serious and persistent mental illness.
  • Help to create and maintain a caring and supportive setting.
  • Monitor for emotional and behavioral changes to ensure resident and staff safety.
  • Facilitate group and individual skills training to assist in promoting community integration and recovery model approach (e.g. cooking, budgeting, shopping, cleaning, nutrition, medications, social skills, communication).
  • Complete documentation in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Coordinate and facilitate resident activities, develop necessary appointments and community outings.
  • Transport clients as needed.
  • Administer medications and record in the MARS in accordance with Physician/PMHNP orders and Horizon policies and procedures.
  • Work effectively with case managers, crisis workers, families of residents, and others involved to provide well coordinated treatment.
  • Perform shopping, cleaning, laundry and other housekeeping duties as needed.
  • Provide meals and snacks as scheduled.
  • Other job duties as assigned by your supervisor

Requirements for the Position

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
  • Graduation from high school, or equivalent; AND
  • One year of experience (paid or unpaid) working with the client population served by the position, or post high school training in health occupations, behavioral or social sciences; OR
  • Any satisfactory combination of work, education, training, or experience relevant to the position, as determined by Marion County.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • This position may be subject to the following: Must not be excluded from participation in the federal health care programs (Medicaid, Medicare and other federally funded programs that provide health benefits); AND must not be excluded from participating in federal procurement (Federal Acquisition Regulation) and non-procurement activities (Executive Order No. 12549).
  • The finalist for this position may be required to pass a criminal history background check; however, conviction of a crime may not necessarily disqualify an individual for this position.
  • Must possess a current driver's license in the applicant's state of residence and an acceptable driving history. Marion County will obtain a copy of the driving record for all qualified applicants from Driver and Motor Vehicle Services and review the driving record according to the Marion County policy and procedure for Driving on County Business.   • This is a safety sensitive/special needs position. Final candidates selected for this position will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen, including testing for marijuana.   • This assignment is represented by a union.
  • This is a Temporary part-time position, which is eligible for overtime.
  • Typical Work Schedule: Hour vary depending upon the needs of the department and program.

Knowledge and understanding of general mental health issues of the clients with whom the incumbent interacts; knowledge of, or training in, the field of health, social sciences, psychology, or substance abuse; ability to understand and carry out directions and instructions; ability to maintain confidentiality; interest and skill in providing services to people; ability to read and write English; must be willing to work hours conducive to reaching the identified population; ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with clients, coworkers, and other agencies.
