Schedule: Monday-Friday; 8am-5pm
Wage Range: $29.98-$42.26 hourly; depending on number of years of transferrable experience
SUMMARY: The person in this position provides behavioral health care in accordance with licensure and the current standards of practice to school-aged youth who may have behavioral health issues including serious emotional disturbance [SED], mental disorder or serious mental illness [SMI]. The BHP will act as a member of the AWARE (Advancing Wellness and Resilience in Education) team and will act as the clinic leader for the school wellness teams. Work as a member of a care team within a Patient Centered Medical Home model of care. This position is a 5 year grant funded position, with 2 years left, in partnership with Billings School District 2.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Supports the school-based mental health programs staffed by behavioral health specialists in order to screen for, provide early intervention for, and to address any ongoing mental health needs of youth with symptoms consistent with a mental disorder(s) or SED.
- Provides phone triage to the school wellness teams to assist in decision making after a school-aged youth exhibiting behavioral signs warranting the need for clinical attention occurs and the youth is stabilized.
- Meets with the student and family to conduct a comprehensive behavioral health assessment, including the student’s medical and psychological history; any history of substance use and any services currently being received by the student and to develop an individualized treatment plan for the student.
- Conducts a re-evaluation assessment of each student as determined in treatment plan.
- Provide interventions using evidence-based techniques such as motivational interviewing and trauma-informed approaches
- Assists in developing and implementing a comprehensive plan of evidence-based culturally competent and developmentally appropriate school and community-based mental health services, including new program development.
- Assists in providing coordinated referral, services and follow-up to school-aged youth and their families for evidence-based school and community-based mental health practices and services.
- Supports the training plan to increase the mental health awareness and literacy of school staff, administrators, parents and others who interact with school-aged youth to recognize signs and symptoms and mental illness, to include the use of trauma-informed approaches and social-emotional learning.
- Acts as an advocate for the youth with other community support services and organizations.
- Develop partnerships and collaboration between state and local systems to promote the healthy development of school-aged youth.
- Increase and improve access to mental health services particularly for children or youth with SED or SMI.
- Maintains youth records and documentation in accordance with program requirements.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA, FERPA and state privacy laws.
- Recognizes and educates team members that managing youth centered care is a team effort that involves clinical and nonclinical staff interacting with the student and family to achieve stated objectives.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Master’s Degree in a behavioral health field (Psychology, Counseling, Social Work) or a closely related field preferred;
- Experience in school-based setting preferred.
- Experience in working with school-age youth preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Valid State of Montana Driver’s License
- Current Montana professional license in good standing (LCPC or LCSW)
