Job Description
SENIOR BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CASE MANAGER II
DEFINITION
Under immediate to general supervision assists in the provision of telehealth and in person contact, screening and referral. May also work to establish and maintain a treatment focused milieu for consumers and family members receiving treatment services
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
Clinical -
- Under supervision, may provide initial response to callers and/or persons seeking mental health and substance use services.
- Interviews clients and families to obtain information relevant to assessing resources, needs and appropriate levels of intervention. Reports data to treatment teams for consideration in the development of an intervention plan.
- Receives training in statutes, guidelines, policies, and procedures governing delivery of mental health and substance abuse services, including legal criteria for involuntary hospitalization, client rights and confidentiality. Provides information to clients, their families, other community agencies, and the general public regarding these topics, under direction.
- Under supervision, may arrange for dispatch of emergency services to scenes of psychiatric emergencies of sufficient severity to require involuntary treatment.
- Participates as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team; assists in the face-to-face evaluation of individuals presenting with request for, or in need of, treatment including outpatient, residential, and/or voluntary or involuntary hospitalization.
- May manage a case load of clients requiring case management services.
- Completes screening and referral information. Makes referrals and coordinates appointments.
- Under supervision, provides support counseling to suicidal and at risk callers; assists in referring callers to appropriate level of care or emergency services as needed. Receives training in therapeutic interaction and crisis intervention techniques and serving as the client’s advocate in having their needs met in the least restrictive setting.
- Participates in staff conferences for the purpose of overall program planning for persons receiving mental health and substance abuse services.
- Under supervision, provides rehabilitative group and individual services with consumers and family members. Is responsible to document services adequately following documentation guidelines. Acts as a mentor to other direct care staff who are learning to provide said services.
- Works in concert with others to provide a safe, well organized and treatment focused community.
- May direct nursing tasks including taking vital signs, assisting with activities of daily living, hygiene needs, etc.
- May chart observations and activities, reporting pertinent changes in the consumer’s conditions.
- Assists in maintaining and providing a clean, safe environment.
- May escort consumers to and from various destinations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of current social and economic problems; of human behavior; mental illness and substance abuse issues; of human relations; of community resources; of psychiatric and medical terminology; of interviewing techniques; skill in dealing effectively and courteously with people; in working cooperatively and effectively with community resources; in exercising good judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions; in working effectively in a high stress, fast paced work environment; and in presenting information clearly and accurately, orally and in writing.
This position provides care to a vulnerable population which requires employees to adhere to all applicable laws, rules and regulations, including but not limited to consumer rights regulations, confidentiality laws, and accreditation requirements associated with this position and field. As such, incumbents should be proactive, detail-oriented, and diligent with protecting consumer information, and possess the ability to understand all laws and regulations regarding consumer rights.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Sr. Behavioral Health Case Manager II - Requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited program in a behavioral health or closely related behavioral science field and two (2) years of experience in professional case management behavioral health services.
Behavioral Health Case Manager II - Requires a baccalaureate degree from an accredited program in a behavioral health field.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Willing to fulfill any job related travel normally associated with position, e.g., attend training and etc. Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
