Job Summary: The store counter sales professional is responsible for taking phone calls, greeting and providing wholesale service to wholesale customers. In addition, the store counter sales professional is responsible for maintaining store and dealer room appearance, security, safety and daily operational standards, as set by the manager. This position is also responsible for training less experienced personnel in store procedures and sales.

Qualifications:

  • Above average verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organization skills and the ability to effectively communicate with employees at all levels of the company as well as customers, vendors and visitors.
  • Minimum of two years of parts counter experience.
  • Familiar with store operating procedures.
  • Completion of APH training programs for Customer Service and Counter Sales Representatives.
  • ASE Automobile Parts Specialist (P2) certified.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities:

Serve the customer

A store counter sales professional must serve our retail and wholesale customers to make APH the first call parts source. This means greeting customers within 30 seconds after entering the store and answering the phone within two rings to help them find what they need or to answer their questions. A counter sales professional knows key customer by name, asks the right questions, uses electronic/paper cataloging, is aware of current sales and sales targets, recommends current promotions/sales programs, suggests related sale items and advises possible upgrade options when appropriate. A store counter sales professional should assist customers with paint mixing, sales and questions (if applicable), machine shop sales (if applicable) and with any returns or warranty issues that arise. When a customer has a concern or complaint, a store counter sales professional should work to resolve the issue in a way that is in the best interests of the customer and the store. Most importantly, the store counter sales professional should go the extra mile to make sure our customers are excited to do business with Auto Value.

Follow procedures

When conducting sales transactions, a store counter sales professional must follow proper store policies and procedures. This includes proper cash handling and credit procedures, proper use of wholesale and employee pricing, legal sales tax application and proper return, and defect and warranty procedures.

Ensure accurate store inventory and proper store appearance

A store counter sales professional ensures the store inventory is accurate and store appearance impresses our customers. The store inventory is maintained by accurately receiving and checking in freight, accurately stocking shelves and racks, accurately pricing and maintaining the retail rear merchandise, monitoring the store for signs of inventory shrink, and in some cases, accurately conducting inventory cycle counts. A counter sales professional also completes overstock reports from the warehouse as requested. The inside and outside store appearance is maintained by completing the daily floor walk checklist (available on the APH intranet) and correcting any issues that are found.

Be part of the team

A store counter sales professional is part of a store team and, therefore, assists other store team members as needed. Working with the outside salesperson on both stock and special orders for wholesale accounts, scheduling and making deliveries and calling on selected wholesale accounts are just a few of the areas where a store counter sales professional may help out the store team. A store counter sales professional will assist in other ways as assigned.

Be a professional

A store counter sales professional must represent Auto Value in a professional and positive manner. A store counter sales professional’s appearance should be professional and meet our customers’ expectations and the APH employee handbook. A store counter sales professional will participate in APH and Auto Value training programs to learn more about our products, our programs and our customers. A store counter sales professional will also maintain a calm, positive demeanor when working with customers and co-workers. If a store counter sales professional is unable to address a customer’s concerns/complaints to the customer’s satisfaction, they should involve store management.

Meet expectations

A store counter sales professional completes the APH counter sales clerk I & II training program, maintains ASE P2 certification and participates in other APH training programs as appropriate.A store counter sales professional will be measured against the standards set for interaction with customers and co-workers, ability to follow store and company procedures, their performance and monthly sales.

Environment: The counter sales professional works primarily indoors in a clean store environment but also may spend time in an office or warehouse environment.

Physical Requirements: The store counter sales professional experiences occasional standing, bending, stooping or stretching and rarely lifts up to 50 lbs. The store counter sales professional continuously operates a personal computer, which includes typing and frequently performs repetitive office tasks, such as filing and writing.

Mental Requirements:
The store counter sales professional is subject to various mental competencies including judgment, problem solving, planning, organization, attention to detail, accuracy and stress tolerance.

Pay: $14.00 - $18.00 per hour
