The Associate Vice President (AVP), Primary Care Clinical Operations will serve as the primary lead for all clinical operations management as they develop and execute on strategic and quality plans for the organization and the region.
The AVP will work collaboratively with Physician Leadership ensuring effective and persuasive communication of strategic plans and goals. This leader will be responsible for identifying areas of opportunity, coordinating and assigning the right subject matter experts to the right project, while balancing our need to execute and deliver.
This leader will also focus on recruiting, retaining and improving the skill sets of the best talent in Primary Care assuring the organizations ability to perform and respond quickly in the ever changing world of healthcare. The scope will range from supporting Medicare Advantage full risk, expanding and improving population based health for all ages, to understanding and improving coding compliance, and clinical education, to building an IPA compliance and facilitating large scale best practice meetings and opportunities.
Ensures a positive and productive relationship with internal and external business partners as well as patients and providers. Develops strategies to implement organizational mission, vision and values that optimize patient outcomes and financial performance. Facilitates excellent customer service and satisfaction while achieving organization-specific financial goals. Develops and participates in company-wide policy and procedures to monitor and ensure company and regulatory compliance and consistency for over 340,000 patients across the state.
This position will work closely with and report to Sr. Vice President Clinic Operations.
Primary Responsibilities:
- The AVP will work closely and collaboratively with other VPs, directors and managers across the team
- Lead and manage direct reports and corresponding hierarchies of indirect reports
- Remember first and foremost we care for patients
- Provide vision and leadership to take the Primary Care Departments to the next level in service of Optum
- Synthesize information/data, develop actionable next steps and to drive the vision of Optum Primary Care Colorado forward
- Support innovation and best practice dissemination by leading the team in coordination of LEAN events and Optum Pilot initiatives
- Provide information/data as requested to Optum leadership
- Promote understanding, communication and coordination of all metric driven programs to include risk adjustment, quality (HEDIS, Star, ACO, Shared Savings, coding and document) across all lines of business
- Participate in requested evaluations and audits
- Develop and coordinate reporting on all initiatives to all appropriate committees
- Demonstrate understanding of the applicable industry/marketplace and their needs
- Demonstrate understanding of applicable laws/regulations/requirements
- Serve as a catalyst to drive continuous improvement
- Proactively initiate and drive change in processes, tools and capabilities that increase operational efficiency and effectiveness while concurrently improving the consumer experience
- Partner with organizations across Optum to ensure planned results are delivered

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 10+ years of experience in managed care
- 5+ years of senior management experience with large teams
- Proven capability working with people at multiple levels of an organization, prefer multiple locations, multi-function experience
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Ability to 10% travel

Colorado Residents Only : The salary range for Colorado residents is $113,500 to $218,100. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
