Associate Scientist - Vacuum Deposition Job at UES, Inc.
UES, Inc. has an opportunity available for an Associate Research Scientist, with experience in vacuum deposition systems and material growth automation, to join our team working within the Air Force Research Laboratory’s Materials and Manufacturing Directorate, at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH.
A successful Scientist in this role will demonstrate technical skills and an attention to detail to support vacuum deposition of novel materials. A Scientist in this position will work independently, yet interact with a team of civilian and military scientists, engineers, and students to support day-to-day operations in research laboratories. This role will focus on lab and equipment support to include troubleshooting vacuum deposition challenges, hardware issues, control software interfacing with deposition equipment, and help maintain a working schedule of the equipment and research activities. The goal will be to develop methods and automation software to more efficiently run the deposition systems using a consistent interface in multiple labs.
Requirements:
- Bachelors or higher degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, or related fields of study is required (new graduates with relevant experience will be considered for this role).
- 1-3 years of experience in conducting laboratory research and interacting with technical research teams (internship or co-op experience included)
- A background in relevant fields (e.g., material science, film deposition, solid-state physics), strong programming experience is required
- Hardware automation experience is highly desired
- A desire to learn more about the automation of ultra-high vacuum systems will be required for this role, so experience with ultra-high vacuum systems, materials processing, or materials characterization is a plus
- Experience with computer aided design (CAD) is a plus
- This position is working within a government facility and requires U.S. Citizenship
