The Opportunity:
The Associate General Counsel has accountability for Seqirus’s largest single market (U.S.) as well as Canada and Argentina, and for multiple Global Functions.
The Associate General Counsel (AGC) reports to the CSL Seqirus General Counsel and leads Legal Partner support for the following large country/group and Global sub-functions/departments within CSL Seqirus (the “Areas of Accountability”).
These areas include:
  • Americas Commercial Operations (inclusive of related functions such as Medical and Regulatory)
  • Americas Manufacturing/Operations
  • Americas Pandemic Franchise
  • Global Commercial Development, Franchise Strategy and Market Access/Pricing
  • Global Marketing and Claims Development
  • Global Medical Affairs and Real-World Evidence Governance
  • Americas Corporate Governance
As part of your responsibilities, with respect to the Areas of Accountability, the Associate General Counsel will:
  • Manage a team of Legal Partners who support the Operations and Commercial strategies, respectively in Holly Springs, the US Pandemic Franchise and Americas Commercial Ops
  • Provide legal advice, counsel and service to internal management concerning legal rights, obligations, and privileges of the Company.
  • Lead the delivery of services provided by the Legal Partners who support the Areas of Accountability
  • Develop and implement strategies and operating plans for the Legal Partners who support the Areas of Accountability to achieve important business objectives and have an impact on results in both the near term (1-3 years) and longer term.
  • Keep current on relevant changes in law, statutes, decisions, and ordinances.
  • Examine legal data to determine advisability of defending or prosecuting lawsuits.
  • Act as agent of the Company in various transactions
  • Oversee key strategic projects of Legal Partners in the Areas of Accountability
The Role:
Lead the Team and Set Strategy to Support Business Objectives:
  • Lead, direct, and control legal activities of two Americas Legal Partners, and a Senior Paralegal to protect and promote business operations for the Areas of Accountability
  • Develop strategies and provide strategic direction to the Legal Partners on programs specific to the Americas Market, or to the Global Commercial Development and Global Medical Functions.
  • Drive the Legal Partners’ mission to enable the business and support informed risk-based decisions.
  • Ensure and communicate a dedicated support model for the Legal Partners to the clients/customers in the Areas of Accountability
  • Refine and ensure consistency of Legal Partner services in the Areas of Accountability
  • Align with Seqirus General Counsel and the Legal Partner Heads in other regions to provide a globally consistent service offering for the clients/customers.
  • Oversee and approve legal budgets for Legal in the Americas, and for certain Global projects and forecasts in close coordination with CSL Seqirus General Counsel.
  • Serve as regional liaison with Legal Services and Operations and Business Integrity and Risk
Manage Legal Risks:
  • Provide counsel and advice to senior management with respect to legal actions.
  • Proactively manage legal risks and identify legal support opportunities for the business by staying informed about statutory and regulatory developments and enforcement and litigation trends.
  • Provide corresponding guidance to business leadership.
  • Supervise and/or manage significant litigation matters, and litigation exposure.
Ensure Efficient Delivery of Legal Support:
  • Develop strategies and set direction that ensures effective and efficient legal support for the Areas of Accountability, which supports the Americas Market, Global Commercial Development and Global Medical Functions and requires specific solutions suited to those markets and tasks.
  • Ensure effective and efficient delivery of legal support in by:
    • Supervising the Legal Partners team who support the Areas of Accountability
    • Reviewing, drafting, and negotiating significant contracts or advising on strategic inquiries from the business
    • Engaging and managing external counsel, including strategy as to external counsel retention (engagement, RFP, etc.)
    • Developing training plans for legal matters for the Legal Partners and the business
Build Relationships with Business Leaders:
  • Develop strong working relationship with business leaders the Areas of Accountability
Set Strategy for Growth and Develop Team:
  • Set strategy for growth and professional development of the team members.
  • Ensure an environment that provides opportunities for development and growth for Legal Partners and other Global Legal department team members.
  • Contribute to the culture of the organization, including collaborative relationships with other business functions and customer groups.
  • Responsible for assisting the Seqirus General Counsel in managing the CSL Seqirus Global Legal Function

Required Skills & Expertise:
  • Bachelor’s degree and J.D. or equivalent foreign degree.
  • Admission to practice in relevant jurisdiction
  • 12+ years’ corporate or law firm legal experience
  • 5 years' experience in the pharmaceutical, biotech or medical device
  • 5 years' international experience for multi-jurisdiction region
  • 3 years' experience managing a legal department.
  • Strong negotiating and drafting skills
  • Ability to builds bridges and empower One-CSL teams.
