Job Summary
The Department of Population Health Sciences is seeking a motivated, meticulous and professionally mature individual to oversee the research administration operations of the department including pre and post award.
The Department of Population Health Sciences provides methodological expertise and infrastructure to advance capacity for impact-driven research and support clinical professionals in providing better patient and population-oriented care in an increasingly complex health care delivery system. Develops and implements policies, programs and financial objectives for assigned departments in relation to grants and contract functions. Participates in preparing department budgets and in setting department goals. Ensures continuity and quality customer service between University departments and community.

Responsibilities
  • Develops and implements customer service, staff management and financial objectives for assigned departments consistent with the University’s goals and objectives.
  • Manages departments’ budgets, estimates budgetary requirements for special projects and oversees purchases and inventory.
  • Implements and administers new and existing department programs and services to internal and external customers. Evaluates program effectiveness. May carry out and implement logistic plans and procedures to ensure that internal university and external entities’ needs are met.
  • Assumes authority and performs functions of the department manager in their absence.
  • Participates in the development and interpretation of department polices to ensure compliance with the University’s policies and regulatory requirements. May authorize exceptions to department policy and procedures related to assigned departments. Ensures compliance with Federal and state regulations.
  • Establishes internal objectives and implements procedures to meet goals. Assists in setting department short and long-term goals.
  • Ensures customer satisfaction by analyzing customer complaints, concerns and suggestions. Provides appropriate follow through to ensure quality customer service.
  • Facilitates cooperative and collaborative relationships with the community and other institutions.
  • Serves as part of the department management team.
  • Ensures competency of staff, determines departmental training needs, develops and presents educational programs and training as needed, mentors, coaches and oversees ongoing staff performance management.
  • Involved in hiring decisions for assigned unit and acts as a direct supervisor to staff.
  • May perform responsibilities as a Grants and Contracts Officer V.
  • Problems faced are both strategic and operational, and often complex without clear precedent.

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s Degree + two years of related experience or Bachelor’s degree + six years of related experience or 14 years of related experience.
