Position Summary:

In partnership with the Store Manager, the Assistant Store Manager plays a vital role in effectively carrying out the day-to-day operations of the store and engaging customers with the highest level of customer service. This role is key to promoting and maintaining a positive work environment for all staff and volunteers while achieving or exceeding sales goals.

Position Duties/Responsibilities:

  • The Assistant Manager partners with the Store Manager, and at the discretion of the manager, may take the lead on several aspects of the store's management, including but not limited to: Ordering and maintaining outside vendor products, recruiting and developing store volunteers, developing community partnerships and outreach opportunities, training and developing store staff, and maintaining visual merchandising and marketing standards.
  • In addition, and most importantly, the Assistant Manager is the sales lead and should spend at least 75% of work time on the sales floor engaged in customer service. The Assistant Manager leads the sales team by example and direct mentoring by demonstrating the Ten Thousand Villages selling process, command of product knowledge, and effective customer service skills.
  • Perform opening and closing procedures and maintain awareness and control of loss prevent through attentive customer service to assist the Store Manager in asset management at the store location.
  • Maintain awareness of store metrics including sales goal, conversion rate, dollars/transaction goal.
  • Maintain a clean, safe atmosphere for all through regular cleaning, straightening and dusting.
  • Receive, price and stock orders, as assigned.
  • Work with store team to ensure consistent coverage of the sales floor.
  • Perform additional duties/responsibilities as requested which contribute to the position's success and the mission.

Preferred Experience, Skills and Abilities:

  • 2 - 3 years’ experience in retail management and/or sales
  • Self-motivated, outgoing and enjoy working with people
  • Confident in arithmetic and data entry skills, including the ability to balance registers and complete bank deposit paperwork
  • Working knowledge of basic computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and the Internet
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to execute multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining awareness for details
  • Ability to communicate clearly and be a leader of a driven store team
  • Ability to attractively display merchandise according to company guidelines
  • Commitment to maintain compliance with company dress codes and policies

Physical Requirements:

  • This job operates in a standard retail environment not exposed to adverse weather conditions but occasionally subject to varying temperatures. Standing for extended periods and walking for short periods of time are also required.
  • This role uses standard office equipment, requires close visual acuity, frequent typing, both hearing and talking abilities, and the ability to lift and move objects up to 30 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
