ABOUT THE POSITION: The Department of English at The University of Alabama in Huntsville invites
applications for a full-time Assistant Professor appointment beginning Fall 2023. This is a tenure-earning
appointment. Candidates must hold an MFA or a PhD in Creative Writing. All genres of creative writing
are welcome to apply, though there is a preference for candidates in fiction whose work touches on
themes of race, gender, sexuality, socio-economic status and/or social justice. The ideal candidate will be
a creative writer who demonstrates a record of publications and is invested in excellence in teaching. The
regular teaching load is three courses (9 credit hours) per semester and may include both online and
traditional formats; the successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in composition and
creative writing and graduate courses for the English MA program.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT: The English Department at UAH is comprised of faculty committed to the
promotion of literacies and the cultivation of scholarly and professional competencies in critical thinking
and persuasive writing across a wide spectrum of literary, technical, and rhetorical situations. We foster
intellectual and cultural diversity, originality of thought, and clarity and cogency of expression through
degree programs designed to advance careful, sophisticated reading practices as well as complex
analytical and research skills. We aim to cultivate our students' management, organization, and
production of knowledge. The department also houses the VUE lab which supports student and faculty
research projects with eye tracking tools, heart rate monitoring, and AR technology.

ABOUT THE COLLEGE: The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at The University of Alabama
in Huntsville includes roughly eighty-seven full-time faculty members and hosts nine departments. We
offer an array of programs in the arts, humanities, and social sciences including thirteen bachelor’s
degree programs, five M.A. programs, one Ph.D. program, and eight certificate programs. The college has
also led the way in creating several interdisciplinary minors, such as Global Studies; Women’s, Gender, &
Sexuality Studies; Justice and Equity Studies; and Game Design and Development. Our class sizes are
