DESCRIPTION OF JOB:

The Division of Education at Edgewood College announces one full-time administrative/faculty position in Language and Literacy with possible consideration for a tenure track line, beginning in January or July, 2023. The Division offers undergraduate licensure and degree programs, Master of Arts (MA) degrees, and an Education Doctorate (Ed.D). The Language and Literacy Program supports licensure and degree tracks at undergraduate and graduate levels in literacy/reading, English as a Second language (ESL), and Bilingual Education. All Division of Education programs aim to advance equity in education by preparing educators for anti-racist work through a grounding in Edgewood College values and providing teaching that is culturally and linguistically sustaining.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborating to administer the Language and Literacy Program, including oversight and ongoing assessment reviews of the program; program development; recruitment, hiring, mentoring, and supervision of adjunct faculty in the program; course scheduling; and ensuring that the program complies with Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction requirements for the program area.
  • Supervising and/or arranging for the supervision of practicum students and student teachers in the program.
  • Teaching (both on campus and online) graduate and undergraduate courses related to teacher preparation in the Language and Literacy licensure and degree tracks, through a broad diversity of theoretical approaches, programming models, methods of instructional practice, and frameworks for culturally and linguistically diverse populations.
  • Serving on Division of Education committees and college-wide faculty committees.
  • Partnering with school, community, and professional organizations, and engaging in public service and leadership in Language and Literacy (ESL, bilingual education, and/or literacy) at local, state, and national levels.
  • Conducting research and scholarly activities that contribute to the field of Language and Literacy.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Necessary Education or Work Experience:

  • Earned doctorate [or expected by August, 2023] with graduate work focusing on ESL, bilingual or literacy education and teacher preparation
  • Demonstrated experience with and commitment to working with culturally and linguistically diverse student populations
  • Minimum three years documented K-12 teaching experience in a relevant field
  • Documented successful experience teaching college courses or K-12 professional development programs in the areas of ESL, bilingual education, and/or literacy
  • Research agenda in Language and Literacy (ESL, bilingual and/or literacy education), with evidence of a focus on social justice and culturally and linguistically diverse student populations
  • Experience with online course management systems; experience facilitating synchronous and asynchronous online learning formats
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting equity, inclusion, and antiracist practices in educational and work environments, and to advancing the College’s strategic plan of inclusion

Knowledge and Skills:

Spanish fluency
