Assistant Professor, Anatomy & Physiology Job at Mercy College
The School of Health and Natural Sciences at Mercy College invites qualified candidates for a full time, multiple year track Assistant Professor in the Department of Natural Sciences in the School of Health and Natural Sciences at Mercy College beginning Fall 2023.
The primary focus of this position is on teaching excellence in and coordination of Anatomy and Physiology lecture and laboratory courses with a secondary focus on teaching and coordinating introductory Nutrition and Human Biology courses. Experience in integrating innovative approaches for promoting student success is required, along with a demonstrated ability to manage and coordinate multi-section courses. Experience in teaching a diverse population of students preparing for health professions and teaching online are required. Additionally, candidates with the expertise to teach courses in health promotion/education and exercise science are strongly preferred.
A willingness to work collaboratively with faculty and to mentor students from a wide range of disciplines, cultures and academic backgrounds is essential. This is an opportunity to join the School of Health and Natural Sciences with 4 accredited graduate health professional programs (communication disorders, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and physician assistant studies) and undergraduate programs in biology, clinical laboratory science, communication disorders, exercise science, occupational therapy assistant (AAS degree), and veterinary technology.
Salary and rank are competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. - Earned terminal degree or significant progress towards a terminal degree in Anatomy and Physiology or a related discipline. Candidates must have a record of excellent teaching at the undergraduate level to a diverse population of students.
- Earned terminal degree or significant progress towards a terminal degree in biology with a focus on Anatomy and Physiology or a related discipline
- A record of excellent teaching at the undergraduate level to a diverse population of pre-professional health science/healthcare students
- Prior experience teaching anatomy and physiology courses as well as Nutrition and/or Human Biology courses, health promotion/education courses and exercise sciences courses at the undergraduate level
- A commitment to using evidenced-based teaching practices to support student learning
- Demonstrated ability to manage or coordinate multi-section courses, including orienting new instructors and managing consistency across sections
- Experience integrating innovative approaches to promote student success and developing an inclusive community both inside and outside of the classroom
- Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
- Experience working collaboratively with faculty from a wide range of disciplines, cultures and academic backgrounds
- Experience teaching online
- Ability to teach at both the Bronx campus and the Dobbs Ferry campus
- Ability to provide leadership and mentorship to adjunct faculty
- Ability to actively participate in college/school, and/or department meetings
- Ability to complete other duties as assigned

The Mercy College Retirement Plan is comprised of two components:
Deferred Compensation Plan
All eligible employees may contribute to the Deferred Compensation Plan on a pre-tax basis upon joining the College.
Defined Contribution Plan
Eligible employees are enrolled in the Defined Contribution Plan after two (2) years of full-time employment at Mercy College and receive a semi-monthly contribution from the College, based on age and salary. If an employee is under age 36, they will receive a contribution of 3.3% of their annual salary each pay period. If an employee is age 36 or older, they will receive a contribution of 9% of their annual salary each pay period.
If employed full-time for two (2) or more consecutive years by another institution(s) of higher education (college or university), without an intervening break in service within the last twelve (12) months prior to employment before joining Mercy College, please submit a waiting period waiver form to Office of Human Resources. The Defined Contribution will begin as of the first day of the month following receipt of the completed waiver form.
