Position: Assistant Plant Manager

Reports to: Plant Manager

Position Summary:

The Assistant Plant Manager will be responsible for overseeing daily operations and assisting plant management in the areas of production, transportation, quality, safety, compliance, training, and maintenance. Additionally, this position will assist in planning, organizing, directing, and controlling all facility activities in order to meet or exceed company goals in food safety, quality, process control, and the cost of goods.

***Must live in or close proximity to commute to Gray Court, SC***

Position Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the facilitation of production activities for Plant Manager.
  • Manage Line Leads and Supervisors in accordance with line goals, product standards, costs, budgets, and established procedures.
  • Coordinate with Plant Manager to resolve plant issues in a timely manner.
  • Mentor and develop Line Leads and Supervisors to meet performance standards.
  • Ensure plant compliance with company policies and government regulations.
  • Schedule routine inspection and maintenance of plant equipment to prevent machine downtime.
  • Implement continuous plant improvements for increased productivity.
  • Implement cost reduction initiatives to minimize plant and labor expenditures.
  • Monitor production and manpower levels to ensure continued efficiency while anticipating problems and assisting plant management with developing contingencies
  • Identifies issues and leads improvement plans in production processes, shift schedules, overtime levels and reporting all activities to plant management
  • Foster a team environment and open, direct communication.
  • Effectively manage costs of goods, including costs associated with raw materials, labor, and overhead.
  • Consult with Customer Service and Logistics for the proper planning of production volumes, shipping, and receiving on a daily basis.
  • Actively participate in production volume forecast and new product rollout.
  • Interact with procurement, customer service, logistics, and other plant managers.
  • Ensure the plant is clean and meets ready-to-eat food production standards.
  • Support the injury prevention program and food safety program to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable State and Federal governmental agencies (OSHA, FDA, USDA, EPA, etc.).

Position Requirements:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of overall food industry experience
  • 3 years of management experience in fresh-cut produce.
  • Bi-Lingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of food safety guidelines such as HACCP, GMP, and SSOP.
  • Strong understanding of fresh produce and fresh-cut produce industry.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of fresh-cut retail product manufacturing.
  • Working knowledge of operational finance and accounting.
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing Systems.
  • Able to work independently as a self-starter.
  • Able to communicate effectively to management and cross functional areas.
  • Good interpersonal skills; able to get along with other employees.
  • Excellent technical writing skills.
  • Must be willing to maintain a flexible work schedule, including nights and/or weekends.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel.
  • Solid understanding of Food Safety plans and systems.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, presentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to build, inspire and motivate employees through good leadership.
  • Proven problem solving ability.
  • High degree of tenacity, determination, and persistence to ensure goals are achieved.
