Assistant Director of the Phyllis Wheatley Center Job at YWCA Knoxville
Under the general supervision of the Chief Youth Engagement Officer, assists with all programs conducted by the Phyllis Wheatley Center, leads the counseling staff of the after-school program and summer camp, responsible for all daily administrative functions for the center, and responsible for general oversight of the facility in the absence of the Chief Youth Engagement Officer.
Responsibilities:
- Supervises and trains counselors and support staff.
- Organize and file all contracts, invoices, and rentals.
- Collaborate with the Program Director to enhance the center’s programs and events.
- Perform data entry to ensure compliance of grant mandates.
- Maintain accurate and current staff, program and participant records.
- Attend all required meetings and training workshops.
- Assist Director of Phyllis Wheatley Center in managing the program within budget.
- Assist in creating, organizing and instructing a recreation program for youth, including arts and crafts, physical activities, and special interest activities in the after-school and summer program.
- Supervise part-time employees, volunteers and/or other staff in absence of supervisor.
- Assists in classes and activities for youth engaged in recreational activities to include active and passive participants.
- Provide guidance and necessary information to assist in the planning, implementation, and evaluation process of programs/events and procedures to enhance the YWCA Phyllis Wheatley Center.
- Assist the Chief Youth Engagement Officer, take charge and direct children in case of an emergency.
- Maintains confidentiality.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in social sciences, or equivalent experience.
- Must have experience with youth or participation in youth-related clubs, classes or programs and have effective human relations skills.
- Must be able to maintain a flexible schedule.
- Requires possession of organizational, numerical, communicational, computer, interpersonal, leadership and supervisory skills.
- Must have a “people first” attitude and possess the ability to think creatively, work under pressure and within time constraints, and work efficiently as part of a team.

Pay Information:
$42,500- salary
Schedule:
- 37.5 hours weekly
- Monday-Friday 10:00am-6:30pm, one hour unpaid break during shift.
