Under the supervision of the DON/Administrator an Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) assumes responsibility and accountability for assisting in the planning, organization, direction, supervision and evaluation of all nursing services in the facility. Assists Director of Nursing (DON) in ensuring the nursing department is compliant with federal, state and local regulations and implementation of Upjohn Care Center core programs. Assists the DON with ensuring the maintenance of records and reports concerning resident care. Assists the DON to ensure the orientation and training of nursing service personnel is completed.
Major Responsibilities:
b. Oversees daily work assignments as needed
c. Directs the work of employees as needed
d. Oversees the schedule of lunch and rest breaks as needed
e. Authorizes early departure from work
f. Authorizes overtime
g. Reassigns employees from one area to another area based on facility needs
h. Prepares written evaluations of assigned employees (licensed nursing staff)
i. Enforces facility policies with authority to issue Progressive Discipline as needed
j. Authority to suspend employees for rules violation
k. Interviews applicants as assigned
l. Receives and handles employee complaints
m. Review/Approve nursing staff time off requests
b. Completes new hire licensed nurse orientation
c. Assist DON with all other licensed nurse education as needed
d. Tracks/Manages all UCRC new hire TB and Flu vaccines
e. Tracks/Manages all UCRC new hire Relias training completion
f. Tracks all new hire CNA orientation for completion
Must have a minimum of three years of skilled Long Term Care experience.

- Staff Development Responsibilities

- Assists in planning, organizing, directing, supervising, and evaluating all nursing services Provided in the facility to achieve desired clinical and financial outcome.
- Obtains and maintains status of Infection Preventionist and manages the Infection Control Program for the facility.
- Manages the Wound Prevention and Reporting program for the facility.
- Manages Fall Prevention Program for the facility.
- Assumes responsibility for analysis of incident and accident investigation reports to determine causes and implement corrective actions.
- Assist in ensuring that facility is in compliance with all regulatory requirements and Heritage standards
- Direct staff in absence of DON
- Assist to ensure physicians make visits as required
- Assist in ensuring necessary equipment, supplies, and staffing are available for the delivery of the prescribed resident care in the absence of the Unit Manager.
- Completes rounds of the facility at least daily to ensure compliance with all policies, procedures and regulations.
- Ensures each resident assigned RAI/POC is carried out on a timely basis.
- Assists in the recruitment, training, supervision, scheduling, and personnel issues in the nursing department.
- Works with personnel to continuously improve the quality of resident care when applicable.
- Represents the facility in various professional and community activities.
- Assists in ensuring customer service standards for the nursing department.
- Assists in ensuring nurses administer discipline fairly and according to the handbook.
- Ensures nurses Provide input for written evaluations as required.
- Interviews applicants for the nursing department as assigned.
- Attends and participates in in-service training, Quality Assurance (QA) committees and other meetings as scheduled and directed.
- Works overtime, holiday and weekend hours as scheduled.
- Shares On-Call responsibility with the other nurse managers of the facility
- Follows facility dress and hygiene policies.
- Safety: knows and follows facility policies and procedures related to safety
- Direct implementation of Resident Bill of Rights.
- Participates in Care Conferences as assigned
- Performs other duties as assigned by DON/Administrator
- Currently licensed in the state of Michigan as a Registered Nurse.
- Must have current CPR certification
- Must be able to adapt to a flexible work schedule and occasional overnight travel.
- Ability to relate positively, effectively and appropriately with residents, families, community members, volunteers and other facility staff.
- Significant physical activities including standing, lifting (up to 60 pounds unassisted), bending, stooping, pushing, pulling and twisting.
- Lifting and/or transferring of residents may be required and some residents will require use of a lifting device and/or assistance of other staff.
