Position: Assistant Director of Development and Communications
Status: Exempt Full-time
Reports to: Executive Director
Supervises: Special Events and Communications Coordinator and Special Events and Communications Associate

The Korean American Family Service Center, Inc. (KAFSC) is a leading non-profit organization assisting women, children, and families in the New York tri-state area to recognize and eliminate relationship violence and abuse. Our counseling, education, advocacy, and support services help individuals empower themselves to build safe and healthy relationships based on mutual respect, compassion, and dignity. Each year, over 3,000 individuals benefit from one or more services that we provide. All our services are culturally sensitive, linguistically appropriate, and free.

The Assistant Director of Development and Communications (ADDC) develops strategies to increase and strengthen KAFSC’s funding base and is responsible for fund development and communication strategy for the organization. As the key development personnel of KAFSC, the ADDC will work closely with the Executive Director, staff, and board to identify, measure and celebrate success measurements agency-wide along with clear communication of these to staff, funders, and KAFSC constituents. In addition to cultivating new donors and funding opportunities, this position will help oversee communications strategies for promoting and fundraising for the organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Grants Management

  • Identify, and assess new grant opportunities and strategically pursue grants including government, foundation, and corporate funding
  • Liaise with foundations and funding organizations; engage with program officers; effectively and persuasively present KAFSC’s case for support
  • Responsible for generating and writing LOIs, proposals, and supporting documents in collaboration with Development and Special Events Coordinator and other KAFSC team
  • Work with the Executive Director, Senior Director of Programs, and Finance team to process and ensure grant award and contract conditions are implemented correctly

Fundraising and Logistics

  • Responsible for all aspects of special events including, but not limited to; annual gala and other special fundraising/donor cultivation/ appreciation events
  • Oversee all aspects of identifying, cultivating, and managing major donors and securing incremental individual giving
  • Work with the Development and Communications team and board members to ensure streamlined execution of logistics for fundraising events
  • Provide timely receipts of all donations and effective tracking through Salesforce
  • Work with Executive Director and KAFSC team to develop KAFSC’s annual events calendar
  • Manage the execution and logistics of major events including budget management, vendor relations, registration, sponsorship recognition, speaker coordination, volunteer management, and post-event follow-up

Communications

  • Oversee the development of a strong visual front for KAFSC through a clear, unified brand in coordination with the Communications Coordinator
  • Supervise Communications Coordinator, and ensure alignment of all aspects of gala and fundraising campaign planning and implementation
  • Work closely with Executive Director to Development and Gala committees to develop strategies to create new avenues for contributions through promotion
  • Oversee all aspects of social media channels

Administration

  • Oversee and develop a comprehensive donor and grants data management system through Salesforce
  • Attend external events and affairs to represent KAFSC as needed
  • Support and actively participate in agency-wide outreach activities
  • Assist Executive Director with various administrative tasks

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree and 3-5 years of relevant work experience
  • Previous event management and execution experience, including management of pre-determined budgets
  • Excellent writer and clear communicator, able to make complex concepts digestible for a broad audience
  • Skilled at identifying and developing compelling stories in both journalistic and narrative styles
  • Proficient in web platforms and e-communications tools
  • Strong project management skills
  • Flexibility to attend occasional evening meetings and events
  • Experience with Salesforce
  • Previous experience working with and supporting high-net-worth donors
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, including facilitation and contact management
  • Ability to manage multiple work streams and stakeholder groups with competing priorities and timelines
  • Excellent attention to detail, with excellent organization skills
  • Familiarity with the issues of the Korean or/and immigrant community
  • Bilingual preferred (English & Korean) but not required

Pay: $90,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
