Assistant Director, Daybreak Day Camp
Daybreak Day Camp is searching for an Assistant Director to spend an unforgettable summer working with children in an exciting day camp setting. The Assistant Camp Director will be responsible, in partnership with other staff, for cultivating and maintaining a supportive and stimulating summer camp culture for kids . Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): Planning and delivery of camp programs and staff training, Acting as liaison between camp families and the camp staff with the regular communication. They will be also responsible for fulfilling all required administrative work, maintaining paperwork, and staff training materials.
Daybreak Day Camp allows children who need a smaller program size and extra social-emotional support to fully experience the benefits of summer camp. Daybreak is one of many programs operated by Cambridge Camping Association. We believe camp and out-of-school communities are where children experience joy, forge friendships, and build memories that last a lifetime.
Responsibilities include
Pre-Season: May-June, limited hours (3- 4 hrs/week)
- Assist with interviewing and hiring summer day camp staff
- Assist with developing program vision and components
- Assist with other administrative work prior to Orientation week
Orientation week: July 3- July 8
- Help plan and lead staff training for the orientation week.
- Participate in all orientation activities.
- Help set up the campsite.
Daybreak Day Camp: July 10–August 11
- Assist with the supervision of 15 group leaders and serve as the primary supervisor for 6-10 high school-aged counselors in training.
- Communicate with Daybreak camp families to understand the social and emotional needs of campers.
- Assist in the development and execution of intervention strategies to support Daybreak kids based on their needs throughout the camp weeks.
- Send a weekly camp schedule, including the bus schedule and camp activities, to camper families.
- Ensure and maintain a safe environment for campers and staff.
- Support counselors, CITS, and program staff in the areas of communication with campers for behavioral management interventions.
- Provide leadership in developing daily activities that support campers' growth.
- Provide assistance facilitating daily camp activities in the absence of camp counselors and/or program staff.
- assist with administering post-camp evaluations for campers, and the staff
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred in special education or human services.
- Demonstrated experience working with youth impacted by trauma or other social and emotional challenges.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Cultural literacy and experience working with families and children of multi-racial, multicultural, and multi-ethnic backgrounds are preferred.
