The University of New England seeks an Area Coordinator (AC) to join the Department of Housing and Residential/Commuter Life team. The University of New England is a vibrant institution with campuses in Biddeford and Portland, Maine as well as Tangier, Morocco. With 2,300 full-time undergraduate students and a total enrollment of over 8,000 students, UNE is Maine’s largest private institution of higher education. UNE’s undergraduate residential campus is located in the cozy, coastal town of Biddeford. Biddeford is located just 18 miles south of Portland, Maine’s largest city, and only 90 miles from Boston. Situated at the mouth of the Saco River, the Biddeford campus features ten residence halls housing over 1,500 students. The University’s 3-year undergraduate residency requirement, coupled with our living-learning communities, numerous student involvement and recreation opportunities, and 17 NCAA Division III varsity sports, create a vibrant campus life for our student body. UNE provides a rigorous academic experience for students with a 13:1 student to faculty ratio, average class size of 22 and 41% of seniors having worked with or currently working with faculty on research projects. Responsibilities
Serving as student facing members of the Division of Student Affairs, the work of the AC is structured to support the Mission, Vision, Values and Strategic Priorities of the University of New England (UNE). Employed by the Department of Housing and Residential/Commuter Life at UNE, the Area Coordinator (AC) is a full-time, 12 month live-in professional employee. The AC is supervised by the Director of Housing and Residential/Commuter Life but also reports to, is trained/directed by and is accountable to, the Associate Director.
AC’s at UNE are expected to initiate “high touch” front-line interactions with students. AC’s provide direct oversight of their designated residence hall(s) and supervise a student staff team. They lead their staff in building communities that are developmental, respectful, safe, inclusive and supportive of student learning. The AC selects, trains and supervises Resident Advisors and Community Assistants. They track and report student interactions and concerns. They implement the department’s Community Development Model with both student development theory and learning outcomes in mind.
The AC supports, plans and implements campus wide programs. They share in daily duty coverage on a rotational basis throughout the entire calendar year. They are expected to provide oversight for emergency situations and to implement appropriate procedures. Working with the Director of Student Resolutions, they interpret and enforce policies and procedures governing student behavior. As such, this position does not conform to a standard 9-5 style work day and it does require the individual to work nights and weekends.

Qualifications
A Master’s Degree in Student Personnel or other appropriate discipline is preferred. This position requires demonstrated live-in experience or a combination of education and experience with comparable knowledge and skills.
- Experience in supervising students and/or advising a student club/organization is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience working effectively within a residence life department.
- Ability to meet and enforce deadlines, take initiative, and work independently to complete complex assignments. Ability to collaborate extensively with a wide range of University personnel and others outside the University.
- Superior communication (written and oral), interpersonal, ambassadorial, presentation, and organizational skills. Target audiences could include not only students but also parents, faculty, staff or community members.
- Ability to analyze information and problem solve.
- Area Coordinators are required to live on campus and maintain a high level of visibility in the halls, dining halls and at campus events. Commitment to a student-centered approach, demonstrating initiative in reaching out and building relationships.
- Must be able to participate in an on-call duty rotation, and work nights/weekends.
