Join Codence as an Apprentice part-time and then potentially move into a full-time position with our client. This is a career-launching, unique opportunity.

Think of it as a job that evolves in two stages. We’ll teach you all we can and make sure you’re set up for success – then you’ll step into a role you already know, with people you’ve met, and begin your “real” job once you've spent a few months with us.

For the first three months, you'll report to Codence's Project Manager and have an opportunity to work on a wide array of tasks - you'll work on your primary client's system, on other clients' systems, learn FileMaker, no doubt juggle some spreadsheets, help with IT, and so on.

You will be working with a broad spectrum of creative and technical opportunities. You’ll have hands-on experience creating FileMaker solutions, web apps, integrations, and more. You don't need to be versed in FileMaker - we'll teach you that - but you need to plan on making it a core strength in the months ahead.

We're consultants first – and these qualities are true for our clients as well – we look for people with strong written and oral communication, friendly, with a primary focus on serving others. We know you'll be juggling a lot of responsibilities with the primary client - you'll need to be adept at keeping organized and managing your own work.

What will you learn?

• How to create, deploy and maintain custom Claris FileMaker solutions to manage customers' data.

• Information: one of your primary responsibilities will be to organize and manage a large amount of data and scheduling mechanics that our client juggles today in spreadsheets.

• Process: what the stages of a project are, how to manage them, how to know where you are, when you are.

• Requirements: you’ll speak with clients, distill their needs, and propose and estimate tasks.

• Development: you’ll create in FileMaker, integrate with other technologies, manage the client's website, and (as you can) write code.

• Test: you’ll work through our QA processes, work with common tools (Jira) and learn the adage that at 90%, you probably have 90% left to go.

• You’ll also get to know the specific client who will be driving this apprenticeship – you’ll learn their business, get to know their people, and learn what challenges they face.

It’s important to know that your full-time position will involve taking responsibility for a wide array of data from various sources. You’ll work with a Claris FileMaker solution built by Codence, then make sure its data stays right.

Preferred Specs

• 1-3 years experience with Computer Science, preferably a degree as well.

• If you're familiar with marketing, great. You'll need a passion for it and for helping to grow a business.

• Any knowledge of FileMaker is plus... visit www.claris.com to familiarize yourself.

• If you're an Excel jock, that would be excellent.

• Ability to work with Project Management/Agile software. Familiarity with Jira is a plus.

• You'll need a strong understanding of relational database design.

• Experience with Web development (JavaScript, PHP, and other related technologies) is a strong plus.

• Likewise another great-to-have: REST API and other integrations.

• And the best candidates will care about interfaces — bring strong UX/UI talents or at least aspire to.
