Summary of Duties:

The Programmer is responsible for information technology development, programming, and support of web-based, open-source software that is used nationally and globally for storage, data mining, and visualization of scientific data related to genomics, genetics, and breeding. This position will support the expansion of an existing software package that will integrate analytical workflows using high-performance computing and implementation of RESTful web services. Job duties include programming in PHP, JavaScript, HTML, SQL, and related technologies. The position is responsible for the development of tutorials and outreach material for the software.

These efforts will support scientists working in genomics, genetics, and breeding. The work will expand the open-source project Tripal (http://tripal.info) which currently has a national and international impact.

This position is expected to provide mentorship to contract workers on the project.

Required Qualifications:
  • Positions require a Bachelor's degree and three (3) years professional experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Experience with an object-oriented programming language. Experience with PHP, PostgreSQL, JavaScript, the UNIX command line, Docker, web development, and custom Drupal 8+ module development.
  • Demonstrated communication skills and experience with team development.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information technology or related field.

This is a temporary position expected to end on September 30, 2023. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.
