Animal Health Care Receiving Technician Job at Wake County Government

Wake County Government Raleigh, NC 27610

What You'll Be Doing

Wake County Animal Shelter is seeking animal lovers to join our team as Animal Health Care Receiving Technicians (AHCTs) to compassionately welcome strays, surrenders and all other animals coming to the shelter. Since the AHCTs are often the first person to handle each incoming animal, they should be well versed in animal behavior in order to prevent bites/scratches to themselves or teammates by scared animals. In addition to helping with daily tasks to keep the shelter clean and comfortable for the animals the AHCTs also perform all intake evaluations, vaccines, pathway planning, and paperwork for all incoming animals.

Additional tasks AHCTs perform for the shelter animals;

Assist the Veterinary Team including dispensing meds (as prescribed) twice daily
Assist Animal Control by providing back up for large scale hoarding or cruelty investigations
Help with adoption counseling
Train new employees from all departments
Daily monitoring of animal health both physical and behavioral
Make decisions daily, in conjunction with management, about the placement of all incoming animals
