The Mobility Mentor will provide support, knowledge and resources needed for moving families from dependency to self-sufficiency in 18-36 months. Through the United Way of Greater Knoxville’s East Tennessee Collaborative (ETC), the Mobility Mentor will carry a caseload of up to 25 families and provide holistic, family-focused services using Economic Mobility Pathways (EMPath)’s Bridge to Self-Sufficiency model. The preferred candidate will have experience working with underserved populations and have extensive knowledge of the systems and barriers in place relating to housing, finances, career, education, childcare, healthcare, and other areas specific to individualized needs.
This is a three-year, temporary position with no guarantee of renewal.
The Duties and Responsibilities of this position are to:
- Using knowledge of YWCA programs and policies, promotes YWCA Knoxville and the Tennessee Valley’s Mission Statement in the community and interacts with other YWCA personnel, volunteers, and staff to meet the goals of the program. Participates in YWCA activities as required.
- Recruits, develops, and maintains positive relationships with community partners. Ensures successful execution of programming in alignment with program design.
- Develops a relational, family-focused strategy with the outcome of increasing self-sufficiency, education, and economic mobility of families with children.
- Works closely with families on their journey to self-sufficiency through coaching and goal setting.
- Conducts intake assessments and administers evaluations to monitor and document each family’s progress.
- Keeps thorough and organized documentation of caseload efforts and executes accurate data collection to ensure effective, data-driven program implementation.
- Works in partnership with the ETC Mobility Mentor Lead and Mobility Mentors from other partner organizations to provide wrap-around services and support.
- Participates and supports the Mobility Mentor Lead’s efforts to develop and facilitate programs and community groups to enhance families’ social capital.
- Ensures fidelity to the ETC’s contracted services, models of care coordination, and compliance with all State grant regulations and requirements.
- Works with the ETC’s EMPath trainers to engage in ongoing professional development.
- Attends scheduled staff and agency wide meetings and weekly supervision with direct supervisor.
- Assists the Chief Program Officer in special projects as requested and understands flexibility is a key component of the position.
- Assures that confidentiality is maintained regarding all client information and agency proprietary information, including but not limited to record storage, organization, and maintenance in compliance with VAWA, HIPAA, and other confidentiality policies, laws, and requirements.
- Requires occasional weekend and evening hours for care coordination based on availability of participating families.
- Other duties as assigned.
Pay Information: $55,000/year
Schedule:
- 37.5 hours weekly
- Monday-Friday 9:00am-5:00pm, 30-minute unpaid break during shift

Preferred qualifications:
- Passion about working in an organization that values and promotes antiracism, diversity, equity, and inclusion. Embraces and actively promotes an inclusive and equitable work environment for all.
- Strong attention to detail, excellent judgment, and the ability to work without close supervision.
- Minimum education for this position is a master's degree in social work, counseling, or a related field of study. Candidates with a bachelor’s degree in a related field and 5+ years of experience may be considered. Lived experience relevant to this role may also be considered in lieu of educational experience.
- Experience providing case management, trauma-informed, and trauma-responsive models.
- Experience working with low-income families, familiarity with social and public services, local housing resources, financial empowerment, and services for children.
- Strong writing and communication skills.
- Ability to work with diverse populations.
- Requires skills and life experiences that indicate sensitivity to domestic and sexual violence and individuals with significant barriers.
- Must be able to maintain a flexible schedule.
- Requires possession of organizational, numerical, communication, computer, interpersonal, leadership, and supervisory skills.
