Ambulance Driver Job at Midwest Medical Transport Company
Summary/Objective
The ambulance driver answer emergency calls to provide efficient and immediate response
to ill and injured patients. After receiving notification of an emergency, the Driver safely
responds to the address or location given, using the most expeditious route, depending on traffic
and weather conditions. The Driver must observe traffic ordinances and regulations concerning
emergency vehicle operation.

Essential Functions
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the
essential functions.
1. Possess good verbal communication skills
2. Interact professionally with other health care personnel
3. Interact professionally with disabled, disadvantaged, sick and injured persons
4. Cleans all equipment following appropriate disinfecting procedures, including inside &
outside of vehicles
5. Restocks and replace used linens, blankets and other supplies
6. Complete daily vehicle inspection and makes careful check of all equipment so that the
Ambulance is ready for the next run
7. Maintains Ambulance in efficient operating condition
8. Keep clean and neat at all time
9. Wear company issued uniforms while on duty; additionally, be responsible for the
maintenance and cleaning of uniforms
10. Secures all passengers in van per the Company Passenger Securement Policy
11. Responsible for safe loading/unloading of all passengers
12. Responsible for safe operation of vehicle in all environmental and traffic conditions
13. Understands basic medical-legal principles & terminology
14. Ensures all reports, letters, and documentation are accurate and completed in timely
fashion
Competencies
1. Knowledge of geographical area or use of GPS device
2. Current & valid state driver’s license
3. Three years of driving experience
4. Medical terminology
Work Environment
1. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of weather conditions.
2. Majority of employee’s time is spent driving a company vehicle.
3. Traveling to and from health care facilities, private residences and local EMS stations
Physical Demands
1. Must possess physical agility necessary to lift and move patients safely
2. Bending, sitting, kneeling, lifting and driving
3. Must safely be able to move patients from beds & chairs on to stretcher
4. Must safely be able to place stretcher into ambulance, making sure it is secured
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
Full & Part time positions are offered, length of shift is dependent upon location.
Travel
Traveling from location to location. No overnight travel required.
Required Education and Experience
1. High school diploma
2. 3 years driving experience
Preferred Education and Experience
1. Familiarization of geographical area and use of maps or GPS devises
2. Current CPR training or must successfully complete, within 30 days of employment
3. Current First Aid training or must successfully complete within 30 days of employment
Additional Eligibility Requirements
1. Current & valid state driver’s license
2. Must pass company provided PCP physical capacity profile exam (post offer, preemployment)
& Drug Screen
3. Meet company policy MVR criteria
4. Must successfully complete company sponsored EVOC
