SITE COORDINATOR - Job Description

DEFINITION

Plans, supervises, and implements an AYA after-school program as a partnership among the School District, the individual school and Action Youth America. Ensures that the AYA school program meets all of the operational contracted terms (including number of students) and the goals of the AYA philosophy, including;

  • Efficient operation of AYA program site
  • Facilitation and communication among school district, school staff, AYA staff, parents and families, and other members of the community.

TYPICAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reports and works cooperatively with the AYA President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO), AYA Coordinators and Administration staff in establishing the after-school enrichment program.
  • Be active at school site for a minimum of (7) hours per day during program hours. The Site Director will be present during the afternoon program.
  • Work closely with everyday school staff, particularly Principals, Administration, District Coordinators, teacher liaisons and custodians.
  • Arranges site visitations for school district visitors, makes constructive contact with parents and other local community members.
  • Establish an ongoing recruitment drive to ensure attendance numbers are maximized at all times. Attend school parent nights and other PR/Recruitment opportunities.
  • Develops procedures for keeping parents informed and involved in program activities and other matters affecting parent, student, and school relationships.
  • Plan program on a monthly, weekly and daily basis for all student participants. Strive to ensure a stimulating and fun learning environment while include imperative program components (Physical Education, Enrichment Activities, Academic Assistance). Be creative and aim to make your program a ‘model program.’ Develops, implements, and evaluates enrichment activities at school site.
  • Assist with selection and monitoring of suitable Program Leaders. Trains new employees, prepares performance evaluations, and communicates with program leaders/coaches. Supervises and supports all staff daily.
  • Always dress/behave appropriately and ensure all staff meet AYA high standards of dress and behavior.
  • Attend AYA and district meetings and trainings, as required, including both initial and on-going training.
  • Familiarize yourself with AYA/District Policies & Procedures Manual and adhere to its parameters at all times.
  • Complies with all health and safety regulations. Attends annual health and safety trainings.
  • Informs the District Coordinators of issues, concerns, and needs of school sites.
  • Reviews and approves time sheets for Program Leaders/coaches and resolves payroll challenges.
  • Prepares reports, annual budget, daily snack counts, monthly calendars, monthly newsletters and memorandums, and conducts all practice emergency drills as required.
  • Maintain student to staff ratios.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Preferable -

Graduation from a recognized college or university, preferably including courses in child development, physical education, social work, education, psychology, or related fields.

Required -

High school graduation or GED; completion of 48 semester or equivalent units at an accredited or approved college/university. Units in child development, physical education, social work, education, psychology, or related fields. After-School Program experienced required!

Experience:

Minimum of two years of experience as an organizer, director, or supervisor in a continuing program of educational, recreational, athletic, or physical education activities; or in agencies or programs serving at-risk youths, including experience coaching.

In addition:

  • The administrator must be at least 18 years of age;
  • Completion of 15 hours of health and safety training on preventative health practices, pediatric cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid certification;
  • Obtain a California clearance and other health requirements may apply
  • A genuine love of children and a personal commitment to making a difference in their lives;
  • Dependable and efficient with strong planning and organizational skills; Detail oriented and team player;
  • An outgoing and enthusiastic personality who enjoys working with others;
