Advanced Nurse Practitioner/Physician's Assistant Job at Dahl Memorial Clinic

Dahl Memorial Clinic Skagway, AK 99840

$67 - $72 an hour

JOB ANNOUNCEMENT - NURSE PRACTITIONER/PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT

The Municipality of Skagway (MOS) is accepting applications for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.

This is a contracted position. Wage range is negotiated per contract.

SUMMARY:

The role of a rural mid-level provider is complex. It requires evaluation and treatment of emergency, urgent, and routine health care needs of a diverse local population of all ages, a seasonal population of adolescent and adult workers, and courtesy health services for tourists and other visitors. It is imperative that providers conserve limited clinic resources and use the state-wide referral network to optimize patient care and health outcomes.

Our providers operate within the guidelines set forth in Alaska State Medical Board and Alaska Board of Nursing, as well as federal and private insurance systems. The clinic is also supported by grants that require clinician efforts and documentation.

Remote physician direction and supervision covers every individual provider and the clinic in general; each provider is periodically evaluated by the Clinic Medical Director and the Medical Supervisor. Medical Malpractice liability is covered under the Federal Tort Claims Act, as part of the clinic being a Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Community Health Center grant recipient.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Below is a list of essential duties a person must be able to perform in order to be successful; this list is illustrative - representative, not comprehensive.

  • Maintain professional licensure and medication prescriptive authority as set forth by Alaska State Medical Board and/or Alaska Board of Nursing for licensing, with appropriate DEA, Alaska PDMP, and National Certification requirements.
  • Maintain certifications of Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and Advanced Trauma Life Support or be willing to obtain certifications within six months of contract start.
  • Maintain MOS credentialing skills annual checklist and show due diligence in increasing skills.
  • Maintain all necessary clinical documentation within the electronic medical records system.
  • Prioritize assignments by working independently and delegating tasks to support staff as appropriate.
  • Perform focused, specialized, or comprehensive history-taking, physical exams, assessment and planning for all age groups. Documents each exam within 48 hours of visit.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, imaging, and laboratory tests as part of patient assessment and planning.
  • Work extended hours with little or no notice. Be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays in rotation with two other midlevel providers.
  • Perform rapid assessment and prioritization of emergency conditions and need for medical evacuation.
  • Interact and coordinate with public safety personnel during local emergency and disaster incidents.
