Job Title: Vulnerable Adult Services Presenting Officer
Department: Adult Services Program Reports To: Law Office Director
Hours: Part Time – 30 Hrs/Wk + Benefits Requisition #: 445
Provide legal advice and representation to the Adult Services Program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provides legal advice to the Adult Services Program, with regard to issues arising under applicable 7.28 Vulnerable Tribal Adult Protection Code.
2. Represents the program in matters pertaining to Adult Services in the Puyallup Tribal Court and other courts as needed.
3. Prepares legal documents and filings on behalf of the program under 7.28 Vulnerable Tribal Adult Protection Code
4. Prepares petitions for involuntary mental health and substance use treatment under RCW 71.05 and RCW 71.34. Ricky’s law and Joel’s law in county courts.
5. Provide accurate and timely legal research in all relevant matters pertaining to the Adult Services Program.
6. Work in collaboration with other tribal programs that provide services to the beneficiaries of the Adult Services Program.
7. Represents the department in all settings in a professional manner including able to communicate professionally with Tribal and State entities.
8. Prepares and maintains legal and administrative records and reports.
9. Assist the Director and Assistant Director of the Adult Services with all other duties as assigned.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications and Requirements

Education and/or Experience
Law degree (Juris Doctorate) from an accredited Law School and two years practicing law in a Tribal government or Tribal program environment. Experience primarily focused on the areas of elder law and disabilities, wills, Powers of Attorney, adult guardianships and health care directives. Experienced with discussing sensitive and delicate matters with department staff including experience conducting one-on-one meetings with staff. Provide outreach and a wide range of legal representation and advocacy to victims of crime, primarily Vulnerable adult abuse survivors.
Must have experience representing clients in Tribal Court. Experience and knowledge using word processing and Westlaw.
Employee must demonstrate the ability to interact tactfully and positively with Tribal members, all levels of staff and management. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality. Ability to read, analyze and interpret common professional journals, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from staff and regulatory agencies. Ability to write effective reports and legal correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions. Ability to effectively present information to management, employees, Tribal Court and groups of people. Ability to advocate on behalf of the Tribe in a variety of settings.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where limited standardization exists.
Licenses or Certificates
Must be a Washington State Bar Association Member.
Must have and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance. Driver's must not contain restrictions that prevent employee from driving a Tribal/GSA vehicle.
Must pass background check.
