Benson Healthcare is adding an Admitting Clerk to our growing team! We are seeking a Per Diem/PRN, Admit Clerk to join us in the beautiful small town of Benson, AZ. Located only 45 miles from the City of Tucson, AZ. Competitive hourly rate and benefits.

POSITION SUMMARY

The admitting clerk serves as the first point of contact for customers of Benson Hospital; initiates the entry point for requested healthcare services and maintains and fosters effective public relations with patients and visitors. Works with patients to verify insurance eligibility, benefits, and authorizations for services rendered to ensure financial reimbursement for the facility. Responsible for computerized patient demographics, registration, and insurance/benefit information.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Exhibits excellence in customer service through appropriate attitude and interaction with all patients, visitors, and staff; adheres to and supports team members in exhibiting Benson Hospital values of integrity, community, compassion, and dedication.

2. Performs patient registration activities to ensure accurate financial and biographical data and documentation have been obtained and properly entered into hospital records, as applicable.

3. Updates, compiles, and distributes information regarding patient demographics including insurance information.

4. Explains all necessary compliance forms and obtains patient signature as required for regulatory agencies.

5. Interacts with physicians and/or physicians’ office staff to secure diagnosis, procedure details or authorization information.

6. Obtains and verifies pre-certification/authorization numbers for services provided on all applicable accounts, contacting insurance carriers by telephone, as necessary.

7. Completes and verifies insurance processing, including account creation, insurance verification, notification, and authorization functions.

8. Documents all notification, authorization, and eligibility information in the registration systems, uses electronic verification tools and web-based resources.

9. Process each account according to the Benson Hospital Admitting policies and procedures, adhering to Benson Hospital organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values policies, and standards.

10. Maintains appropriate filing systems, records, reports, and confidential files to ensure quick retrieval.

11. Duties are conducted timely in a professional and courteous manner.

12. Answers any questions or directs individuals to appropriate department.

13. Communicates and interfaces with hospital personnel, patients, medical staff, and family members to ensure high-quality patient care.

14. Attends office meetings and education programs.

15. Participates in on-call coverage for weekends.

16. Performs other duties as assigned by the Business Office Manager and/or Patient Access Lead.

17. Complies with the requirements of the Benson Hospital Corporate Compliance Program.

18. Maintains a safe, clean, comfortable work environment for self and staff.

19. Identifies and reports to the appropriate authority any active and/or potential environmental safety hazards.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

1. Knowledge of medical terminology.

2. Excellence in verbal and written communication skills.

3. Basic computer familiarity, experience, and the ability to operate office equipment.

4. Attention to detail and accuracy focused.

5. Ability to read, listen, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

6. Ability to interpret and explain complex insurance benefits and patient financial responsibilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

1. High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

2. One (1) year of admitting experience, preferably in an acute care setting, preferred.
