GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The Admissions and Patient Account Specialist is responsible for department administrative duties, as well as reports, database entry, verifying insurance benefits, preauthorization and reviewing admission paperwork with all new admits to all Moody Neuro programs. The Admissions and Patient Account Specialist will perform other duties necessary to the effective and efficient operation of department. The Admissions and Patient Account Specialist will uphold the mission philosophy, and goals of the organization while maintaining strict confidentiality of personnel and patient data and information in the performance of assigned duties.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Completes daily department activities ensuring efficient service is provided to all applicants for admission in a timely fashion.
  • Effectively communicates each step of the admission process, including but not limited to detail regarding funding (coverage and authorization), screening and medical acceptance to the program to appropriate internal and external stakeholders. Ensuring that coordination of said communications are appropriately collaborated with the Admissions Coordinator.
  • Collects detailed benefit and coverage information for each prospective Moody Neuro patient. This detail should include, but is not limited to, primary and secondary coverage for any/all services offered by Moody Neuro, exclusions to the individual medical policy, exceptions to the policy that may or may not follow state mandates.
  • Continuously updates CRM and ADT/EMR systems provided for pre, and post admissions reporting, and attend meetings to discuss status of admissions (i.e. Pipeline).
  • Initiates, retrieves updates, and ultimately obtains insurance preauthorization for patient stay by contacting prospective patients insurance carrier via phone and/or submitting medical necessity detail via fax.
  • Prepares and ensures the execution of all admission documents for new patients, their family member(s) and/or their legal guardian(s).
  • Inputs and updates daily census statistics into reports, databases, and systems to ensure current census data is accurately obtainable.
  • General office duties, included but not limited to checking mail and sending certified mail, making copies, utilizing the fax machine, type documents/correspondence, etc.
  • Discharges duties in accordance with Moody Neuro organizational policy, CARF and other accrediting bodies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with verifying insurance benefits and collecting health claims.
  • Understanding of general office procedures.
  • Knowledge of health facility operations.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to organize and prioritize.
  • Skilled in use of computer terminal.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Ability to perform tasks with a minimum of supervision and direction.
  • Ability to work under pressure and make good judgments.
  • Knowledge of business operations, especially appropriate telephone etiquette.
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel and other office equipment.
  • Ability to follow directions and work with little oral supervision.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding documentation copied, typed or filed.

Education:

  • Two-year degree or equivalent. Multiple years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of two-year degree.

Experience:

  • Three years in a healthcare business office setting with at least one year of insurance verification, billing and collections experience.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.83 - $21.03 per hour
