Summary
The Admissions Coordinator / DEI will focus on recruitment and engagement of students who identify as Asian, Black, Latina/o, Middle Eastern, multi-racial, Native American, Pacific Islander, or simply as a student of color. The successful candidate will execute recruitment efforts, develop positive working relationships with high school counselors and community organization leaders, and work alongside the Associate Director of Admissions to engage admissions counselors in this work. In partnership with Admissions leadership and College Access Programs, this position will assist in the continued development and implementation of a diversity recruitment plan focusing on students of color, in line with the market development and growth strategy of the University and in support of the University’s vision for 2030.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Admissions Territory (Diversity-focused)
  • Manage assigned travel territory including high school visits, college fairs, community events and presentations. As possible, the territory should focus on diverse areas (possible examples include geographic areas with high percentage of people of color, DACA, refugees, key schools identified across the country, etc.)
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key recruits to help them with the application and decision process and transition to university.
  • Review and evaluate admissions applications, including high profile and complicated cases with a focus on untapped populations.
  • Foster relationships with secondary school personnel in college guidance.
  • Develop proficiency within the CRM to gather data, plan travel, record interactions with students, and report activity. Database management will be an essential component to successful recruitment.
  • Analyze current enrollment data related to Calvin University student recruiting by reviewing current and historical enrollment and geographic data to identify and develop sources and contacts for reaching potential students.
Diversity Recruitment Leadership and Initiatives
  • Serve as a primary contact for recruitment and enrollment initiatives with regard to diversity. Equip admissions counselors to also serve as key contacts for recruitment and enrollment initiatives with regards to recruitment of diverse audiences.
  • In alignment with and in support of the University enrollment growth strategy and market development goals, identify schools for targeted recruitment. Relying on data-driven decision making and on-the-ground insights and knowledge, recommend schools for admissions counselors to visit and for College Access Programs to recruit in. Evaluate the effectiveness of targeted travel to these institutions by all recruitment staff and make recommendations for change.
  • With the support of the visit team, develop, coordinate and execute events and/or specialized visit days (and/or sessions at current visit days) for students of color. Enlist students, faculty, staff, and alumni to assist in programmatic efforts.
  • Partner with departments across the University to align efforts in recruiting and retaining a diverse student body. Includes sitting on key committees.
  • Liaise with on-campus partners in Center for Intercultural Student Development, Center for Student Success, etc. to maintain strong relationships and information flowing between their offices and Enrollment Strategy and advocate for population specific support that helps boost retention.
Ongoing performance
  • Understand the competitive landscape, how the market is shifting, and what impact these dynamics should have on program and organizational strategy going forward.
  • Keep abreast of pertinent developments at the university, in higher education and in the field of professional diversity admissions work.
  • Work with Admissions leadership on departmental goals related to campus visits, apply, and enroll for diverse populations. Track progress towards goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant discipline.
  • At least 2 years of experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience in diversity and inclusion advocacy.
  • Prior experience in higher education admissions is preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
