Position Overview
This position will support the school in overall operations compliance. Areas of compliance may include attendance, student schedules, Special Education, grade entry, etc. Ideal candidates will be self-motivated, highly organized, detail-oriented, solutions-focused, personable, and have strong written and verbal communication skills. Individual should enjoy collaboration with others and working with middle school aged children. Highly desirable to have strong knowledge of Excel and Aspen Student Information System.
At the Principal’s discretion, the position may be called Administrative Aide, Administrative Assistant or Secretary.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, dues, and/or skills required. Other dues may be assigned.
Receives, screens and assigns incoming calls to appropriate persons.
Maintains various files, such as general correspondence, records, reports and reference materials.
Screens incoming mail and distributes appropriately.
Orders supplies and ensures that supply room is fully stocked at all times.
Provides support to Administrative Officer, Business Manager and other administrative staff as necessary.
Escorts students to and from classrooms.
Types memoranda; edits and proofreads documents; and sends and receives faxes.
Assists Registrar with student registration.
Performs data entry functions.
Assists in recording student attendance; assists in calling parents regarding absences; and maintains other relevant records.
Assists with maintaining technology.
Maintains inventory and distributes textbooks.
Assists with maintaining bulletin boards and classroom materials.
Greets and addresses concerns of parents, guardians, and community members who visit the school; and participates in school-based committees as necessary.
Attends staff meetings, staff development workshops, conferences, and other meetings as required.

High school diploma or equivalent.
Previous exposure to or experience in the education sector a plus.
Experience working in an office environment.
Microsoft Office.

District of Columbia Public Schools will not inmidate, threaten, coerce, discriminate against, retaliate or take adverse employment acon against any employee, student, or volunteer that in good faith and with honest and non-malicious intent makes a report regarding potenal violaons of laws, regulaons or policies.
Retaliaon includes, but is not limited to, adverse job acons such as terminaon; denial of any bonus, benefit or training; reducon of salary or decrease in hours; or change in or transfer to a lesser posion.
Individuals who violate this policy will be subject to the appropriate and applicable disciplinary process, up to and including terminaon.
The following Federal and District law concerning non-retaliaon supports our Non-Retaliaon Policy.
Title VII, Secon 704(a), of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended, states the following:
(a) Discriminaon for making charges, tesfying, assisng, or parcipang in enforcement proceedings

DC Law 2-38 (Human Rights Act of 1977), Part G, Sec. 1-2525, states the following:
1-2525. Coercion or retaliaon a. It shall be an unlawful discriminatory pracce to coerce, threaten, retaliate against, or interfere with any person in the exercise or enjoyment of, or on account of having exercised or enjoyed, or on account of having aided or encouraged any other person in the exercise or enjoyment of any right granted or protected under this chapter. b. DC Municipal Regulaons, Title 5, (Board of Educaon) Subsecon 1401.2(z) states the following:
(z) Retaliaon for reporng harassment and sexual harassment. An employee commits an offense under this provision when he/she retaliates against any person who reports alleged harassment or sexual harassment, or any person who tesfies, assists or parcipates in an invesgaon, or who tesfies, assists or parcipates in a proceeding or hearing relang to such harassment or sexual harassment. An employee retaliates against a person if, as a result of acon taken by the employee described in the previous sentence, 1) such person is reasonably inmidated by verbal threats or physical conduct of the employee, or 2) such person is denied an opportunity, right or privilege to which he/she would otherwise be entled, or 3) such person is subjected to detrimental treatment to which he/she would not otherwise be subjected.
