Lowell General Hospital is currently seeking a Nurse Practitioner to join our multidisciplinary Addiction Services team in Lowell, MA. The ideal candidate is someone who is passionate about our team’s mission of “inspiring hope and building a bridge to recovery”.

Primary responsibilities will include substance use disorder (SUD) assessment, medication management, and care coordination. The role includes engagement with patients in both the inpatient and outpatient setting, including seeing patients in the Emergency Department, on inpatient floors for an ‘Addiction Consult’, and in the ‘bridge clinic’ for scheduled outpatient appointments. The role is supported by a multidisciplinary team including an MD, psychiatric NP, LICSW, RN case manager, recovery coaches, and a clinic coordinator.

How You’ll Transform Patient Care:

• Perform comprehensive evaluations that include assessment and diagnosis of substance use disorders
• Develop treatment plans for substance use disorders and mental health care based on biopsychosocial theories, evidence-based standards of care, and practice guidelines
• Treat patients of various ages and clinical presentations, including geriatric populations
• Maintain knowledge of the most up-to-date evidence-based practices in the field of addiction and co-occurring psychiatric conditions
• Perform and/or supervising injections of long-acting injectable medications
• Interpret point-of-care urine drug testing
• Complete psychiatric assessments when indicated, formulating differential diagnoses, selecting appropriate treatment modalities, ordering and monitoring selected laboratory or routine diagnostic tests
• Assess mental status, suicidal or self-harm behavior, level of functioning, health behaviors, trauma, sexual behaviors, current and past history of violence, and social and developmental history
• Provide leadership in clinical emergencies including safety assessment, crisis intervention and referrals to higher levels of care as indicated
• Work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary treatment team of the Bridge Clinic
• Counsel and screen patients for infectious diseases and refer for appropriate treatment
• Assist in the case management of transferring psychopharmacology care, including addiction treatment care, to community providers for stabilized patients
• Utilizing supervision/consultation provided by the Bridge Clinic Medical Director
• Ensure patient safety through appropriate treatment planning
• Identify, measure and monitoring clinical and related behavioral outcomes to determine the effectiveness and appropriateness of the plan of care
• Participate in grant opportunities to enhance clinical and operational initiatives and programs.
• Address individuals and information with a high degree of sensitivity and confidentiality in various delicate, formal, or urgent situations.

Who You Are:

• Graduate of an accredited and/or approved Nurse Practitioner program
• Current license as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
• Current certification in CPR required
• Ability to treat patients of various ages and clinical presentations, including geriatric populations
• Acceptable criminal background check.
• Current X-waiver for buprenorphine prescribing or willingness to obtain
